Since before the dark times, I've maintained this handy list of space opera novels by cisgender women, trans, and non-binary authors.

If that sounds like something you need in your life, check out the spreadsheet. Suggestions always welcome via the form! #books

Today, I talked with my students about a RFK video where he talked about stuff in our food that we can't pronounce and why it is absurd to use pronunciation as a useful metric for literally anything, let alone the healthiness of a substance.

I hate this timeline.

What are you reading?

Tell me and I will get @princejvstin.com to play a game of the newest Star Wars CCG with me and he can choose to play the Vader or Skywalker deck.

Ok palate cleanse time. In case you missed it, here's my most popular post ever
4 yrs ago today, a family member managed a truly spectacular own goal, splintered his domestic bliss, & in the process, united the world for a day.

On popular request, I shall now recreate the livetweet thread from that day

So gather around children, for this is the tale of The Rice Truck Saga

I literally still have a massive stack of CD-Rs waiting to have stuff burnt onto them.

And many others in a CD folder with stuff on them.

That was the way to make sure you always had your tuns on hand back in the day. And we really listened, too. Over and over.
My favorite piece of content today.

Yup.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

Just to be clear in case you're sitting around wondering if women who get PhDs also get hitched and/or have babies:

Some of them do. Some of them don't. Their worth is not determined by either decision.

They are pretty awesome, though, cause a PhD is a lotta work (I know cause I have one...).

You can tell immediately that the person responding in the image either hasn't read Romeo & Juliet or has the interpretive skills of a bland turnip.

You cannot accurately read that play and think it has anything to do with whatever nonsense this weirdo said.

With my hands in so many different hats, it's a bit cumbersome to link everything on socials. So if you are trying to find all the things I do, there's a handy page that makes that easy peasy (lemon squeezy)!

Podcasts, blogs, videos, and so much more. Wee!

I will reiterate again that the only reason I care about who is on the list and who had contact and who did crimes is so anyone who is guilty of doing crimes or hiding the crimes can get what is coming to them.

Whether I or you like them is irrelevant to me. Everyone who participated must burn.

Don't mind me. Just having a conversation with a friend who streams with me where I wander down the rabbit hole of Twitch/YouTube finances to see how successful one would have to be so you and your friends can retire and just play games and be dorks for a living.

Pipe dreams.

And we're back with another evening of Battlefield 6 over on the Twitch machine.

Why? Cause I like running around and getting smooshed by tanks or accosted while trying to track troop movements (or other useful things).

The journey to suck less begins!

It was an engrossing read; the characters continue to be fully engaging and the protagonists sympathetic (even though not always in agreement with each other), and the rich worldbuilding continues …

I assume here that the customer assumes all liability even if the platform has known defects that result in screwed up taxes.

And for that reason alone, nobody should let this garbage touch their tax docs.
TurboTax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT, where customers will be guided through tasks tied to their tax filings or financial profile by the AI chatbot.

TurboTax owner Intuit is also paying OpenAI more than $100 million a year to power AI agents.

I heard about MRM’s terrible contract and I have heard that individuals have negotiated a more reasonable contract. But MRM didn’t change their boilerplate.

SFF writers can’t unionize, but I won’t send stories to them until their contract is fair for every writer. Solidarity is solidarity.
Did you read my post from last week about how contract woes caused me to withdraw an accepted story from F&SF, ending my 54-year quest to be published in that magazine? But wait (as the saying goes) — there's more! Scroll down at the link for an update. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Look, if you don't want me to think your cover art is AI generated, then you absolutely must give credit to the folks behind it (artists, designers, etc.).

Otherwise, my new default is just to assume you went to the machine.

I wish my cynicism had been proven wrong and Must Read Books had changed their contract to remove all the rights grabs and other nonsense.

Alas, they apparently really are after any and all rights they can get you to agree to.

All my legacy print subs lapsed this year. I won't return.
