There's too many primary school places in London for not enough kids. So schools are competing to stay alive, copying private school marketing tactics with Instagram ad campaigns — and in one case offering a £50 Amazon voucher referral scheme for parents. www.londoncentric.media/i/184437718/...

Plus: How engineers installed phone signal on the London Underground, how many freemasons can you fit in a police force, and the house with a swimming pool in the middle of the living room.

Whatever happens tonight, Tyler Heaps came in with a vision for his club and put it out to virtual perfection in Year 1 of an expansion side.
"We want to avoid duels at all costs...You won't see us play long out of a goal kick."

Tyler Heaps, MLS's youngest sporting director, has shaped the tactical identity of MLS's youngest club: San Diego FC.

Here's what to expect.

This is an atomic bomb.

Every paragraph you read you think ‘wow what a terrible guy.’

And then there’s another paragraph. And another. And another.

You would think in 2025 this behavior wouldn’t be tolerated or covered up. Tanner was doing this for YEARS.

Incredible work by Pablo.
NEW: Ernst Tanner has built a powerhouse at the Philadelphia Union.

But my @us.theguardian.com investigation has shown wide-ranging allegations of misbehavior throughout his 7-year tenure.

Tanner denies the allegations, and was investigated by MLS this year.

I’ve just realised how significant a deal Trafford to Man City is.

An English ‘keeper being first choice at that level is an anomaly these days.

Which is why we have the UK gerontocracy.
It's been a truism in my lifetime that once a group of citizens has a perk or benefit, it's politically difficult for govt to take it away. But in the 24x7 rolling news and social media world it's become even harder.

Two hours after Keira Alexandra Kronvold gave birth, her daughter was taken from her – the third child to be removed from her care following a now-banned assessment that disproportionately targets Inuit women in Denmark. Will she win the fight to get Zammi back?

Today I learned that Nottingham Forest have a netball team. Always wondered why sporting club models never took hold in England.

My guess is classism

Burkina Faso vs Zambia QF at U-17 AFCON. Worst match I’ve seen all year.

Last batch of Burkinabes were far more technical.

One of the defining feelings in American life, for decades now, is elites doing plainly criminal shit and nothing at all happening as a result. It is deranging in a way that virtually nothing else is. Media fixates on perceived street lawlessness but shit like this matters much more in my opinion.

I think a huge part of this push for going back to 5 days in the office is that there’s a generation who watched their bosses work their way up to getting a corner office and popped their heads out to survey their underlings on occasion. Now they’re at the top and feel robbed.

How many more emerging prospects are waiting for an opportunity like Abdulai Juma Bah has had just in Sierra Leone, let alone in the other 53 countries across a football-obsessed continent of nearly 1.4 billion people? Countless is the obvious answer. Africa is the future of football.

Abdulai Juma Bah is another example of the practially limitless potential that African football holds. Signed straight from Sierra Leone in August, he plays 850 minutes for Real Valladolid in La Liga, and now Manchester City are set to sign him five months later. Relative nowhere to the elite.

The standard of football documentaries has sunk to a miserable level. In most cases, they’re a step away from just displaying their IBAN for six episodes.
