FWIW I think his gnome books for kids are his best

Agree. I think you can see the HHG influence in the first few books; travelogues loosely linking amusing/"amusing" ideas. He quickly gets more into plot and character and generally becomes more accesible, funny, and just overall better than Adams ever managed.

Interrupting hiatus to say that I really appreciate @wyrdscience.bsky.social @johnpower.bsky.social
Sure, you can google games articles, but the very act of curation is one of love. And to have such a publication available is special!
Gives me the same feelings as Under the Radar from college days

... and there's plenty of health and safety/ bureaucracy complaining across the series which obviously plays well with small govt. anti "nanny state" ideas that the conservative party love.

Pratchett's left cred has been somewhat burnished since his passing I think. There's stuff in the books which would work for a young tory too; a certain new atheist/ internet arguer vibe to some of the discworld books (e.g. Small Gods) ...

Just checked in on him, nowadays he's a "Fractional Ops Fixer"
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of working on a freelance project working with a guy who had this as his linkedin bio...

@timclare.bsky.social 👋 hi! I played my first couple of games of Joraku last night after getting hold of it off the back of seeing your YouTube video. I love it! So just wanted to say thanks

(my more out-there opinion is that we should use a log scale to delineate live stages)

yeah, i've always thought 0-30 = young, 31-60 = middle aged, 61-90 = old, 91+ = living ancestor makes sense. i understand people not wanting to be middle aged because of cultural stereotypes etc. but tbh not accepting you're aging is the most culturally middle aged thing you can do.

isn't it an aesthetic like an accent? we all have one but can only notice other peoples

no probs, I know at least a couple of people who follow me on here are Dorothy L. Sayers fans

Presumably this is a) some AI bloat b) subscription model, at which point why wouldn't I just go back to Adobe?

Urg! Affinity Designer and Publisher are both really great and the reason I like them is that they just let me get on with doing the job at hand, run decently fast and have fewer bugs than the competion. Can't emphasise enough how much I don't want "a shift in how creative freedom is defined"
"You've chosen to see the future first. Now you're at the front of the queue for what's next. This isn't just another update. It's the beginning of something new. A shift in how creative freedom is defined. Keep an eye on our social channels. We'll be sharing glimpses of what's about to unfold."

On the off chance: Does anybody have these two Dorothy L. Sayers books *in these editions* and are willing to part with them for money? I'm finding it impossible to get my eager hands on them.

... tend to stick to non-microtransaction stuff these days like Slay The Spire but I do miss the competetive side.

I played Snap for a couple of months over the winter when it came out and decided I needed to step away. Like, I love that kind of card game but the full on addictive design and treadmill aspect to them too easily gets the hooks into me...

Getting to legend was what finally freed me from the game. I spent £50 on the bundle and played at least like 2-3 hours a day for the season and still only just scraped in.
