Yes. Being human can’t truly be commodified.
Actor and longtime woodworker Nick Offerman says he has a "responsibility" to continue making things by hand as the world becomes more automated.

Exquisite.
Insanely perfect: fantastic little bouquet of flowers in a glass vase by Daniel Seghers of Antwerp, painter & Jesuit priest, whose day is today.

Correct. The words we use matter.
It’s actually better to call the strikes crimes against humanity, rather than war crimes for that very reason. Using war crimes gives the regime what it wants, the popular perception that we are at war. We are not at war.

I've been doodling floor plans since I was 12, maybe younger.

Even my most nonsensical early designs weren't this bad.
Oh shit waddup

Sooo I'm in training to become a spiritual director, and apparently it's best to learn with real directees. 🤭 I could use more volunteers so I'm making a public invitation for the first time. 🙏 Could you use some (free!) (not-yet-professional!) (Jesus-centered!) companionship? 1/

Tonight’s #SundaySoup: a little fiddly and time-consuming, but so very delicious on a cold day.

My tweaks: use bacon fat instead of the salt pork; add celery with the onion and frozen peas with the mushrooms; serve over mashed vegetables (mix of potatoes, turnips, parsnips, kohlrabi).

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

The reason *they* aren't into politics is because they're working hard to make ends meet, clean the house, finish homework, and feed the kids. But your boss, your landlord, your school board, and big ag are all into politics.

Those guys want you to stay out of their business. Don't.

Buckle up for a roller coaster ride through the USAID budget process. To keep you reading, I will use memes.

Step 1.

Every year, the White House (via OMB) puts together a federal budget proposal to Congress. Every federal agency (incl USAID) sends OMB their budget wishlist.

Maybe I’ll tell y’all about Thanksgiving in Uzbekistan, where I was in the peace corps 2000-2001.
I lived in a town; nearest American lived in a qishloq - a true village. A few of us somehow figured out to meet there. (How? No internet, no phones. No recollection of how we planned anything.) 1/

My grandparents, who were children of Russian-Jewish immigrants, loved Thanksgiving cuz it was a holiday that they could celebrate too
As a civil (and not religious) holiday, Thanksgiving opens the door to a lot of new Americans to be able to participate in a broader America in their own way. No other public holiday comes close to the assimilating force of Thanksgiving

The republicans are building a permission structure for doing violence against their perceived enemies much in the same way the republicans and their online environments built the infrastructure for January 6th.

I really cannot explain as a researcher and academic how dangerous this is.
i said to a friend it was a slow news day and then had to remind myself the president called for the execution of congress members and it’s just crazy how his blood lust has become routine

Deep thanks to the brave historians, lawyers, diplomats, journalists who serve as guiding lights & show us we’re actually NOT crazy to be alarmed at the state of our country.

What a gift to speak briefly with @vermontgmg.bsky.social at #TribFest25! Your work makes a difference and I’m grateful. 🙏🏻
