The moment that anybody outside the DHS apparatus gets inside one of these facilities without cleaning up beforehand, we're going to see things that even the most hardened and cynical among us can barely comprehend.
JUST NOW: Huge mass of agents in a standoff, weapons drawn as Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, and Kelly Morrison attempt to conduct congressional oversight at the Whipple Building, which has been HQ for thousands of ICE agents.

this dumb shit is what i mean when i say this is a purely aesthetic “politics.” yeah man, why can’t we have a fusion of cosmopolitan social democracy and revanchist hierarchies of wealth and privilege? tough question.
Matt Stoller: “..Trump & Mamdani defeated establishment in their own way, representing hunger of voters on the right & left who want something different. If those sides cd come together.. that would be a sea change in how we organize our political economy”.

Meta wins its antitrust case, there are now two fire truck antitrust claims, the stock market got wobbly, and Larry Summers was exiled from the establishment, at least for now.

Mamdani going so hard for trans right and winning is some juicy proof that every dem that abandoned us didn’t do it for politically advantageous reasons. They did it because they’re transphobes and they will lose for it

The New York Times quickly sending out Douthat to argue that Mamdani’s victory doesn’t really matter is so predictable it borders on self-parody.

Remember, folks: Every time the Right wins an election, it’s an undeniable expression of the will of the people. If a lefty wins, it’s just a blip.

And if you read the article, by AI they mean normal, decades-old computer simulation. I am so tired of this hype bubble man😭
It's a huge change after just one model year. And engineers at GM explain that AI testing is so good now, it helps them skip entire prototype stages and get cars to market faster:

Here's Why The Cadillac Optiq Switched To Rear-Wheel-Drive—And Did It Faster With AI
GM’s engineers only needed one model year to transform the Cadillac Optiq into a better car dynamically. Here's their secret.

Grist’s new “positive tipping points” story hails renewables and native gardens as proof we’re turning the corner.

But we’re not swapping oil rigs for solar fields. We’re building both, accelerating destruction, and pretending it is progress.

Textual language, as experienced through both reading and writing, is one of our species' near-magical achievements, so of course now every tech-dipshit landlord wants to build machines and reproduction economies that dissolve it like acid.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

This piece plumbs the depths of my cynicism about LLM usage in my industry. The author proposes a future of perpetual mediocre stagnation in our tools and languages, which will be ok because LLMs will be good enough at making things work most of the time

Political parties must shift immediately and dramatically to the left to avoid alienating these frustrated and abandoned young women. Am I doing this right?
Our recent poll found that women 28 and younger skew substantially more left than the national average. Nearly 80 percent of Gen Z women want abortion to be legal and seven in 10 want gender-affirming care to be accessible for trans adults.
