Mascot rave actually seems like an incredibly effective tactic. There's absolutely no way to spin that the dancing unicorn was threatening.

Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

Sounds amazing.
I love when something practical feels so poetic.

NEW WRITING:
"We are living through the worst time of my lifetime, and astrophotography has helped me remember that, as my mom Margaret Prescod once reminded me, the universe is bigger than the bad things that are happening to us." 🔭

As promised, with a prettier image of Andromeda! 🎉
It's Andromeda Season!
Now is the time to go outside at night and look at our next door neighbor. It's not creepy!

Join our #APSA2025 Wednesday afternoon short course on Planning for Real: Bringing Your Whole Self to the Field!
PLANNING FOR REAL: BRINGING YOUR WHOLE SELF TO THE FIELD
An APSA Short Course
Discussions on Navigating:
•	The body
•	Academic Responsibilities
•	Ethics
•	Practical Concerns
•	Gatekeepers
•	Community
•	Family
•	And much more
Most fieldwork advice is very general in nature, proffered for supposedly neutral and unmarked researchers. This approach underestimates the variability of researchers’ bodies and positionalities across the span and dimensions of fieldwork including preparing, active field time, and reception. These varied bodies and positionalities are not ancillary to the planning and doing of fieldwork but influence every aspect of it.
We take up these concerns in this interactive workshop session, sharing our experiences, insights and expertise, and creating space for participants to integrate their whole selves into planning and adapting field work.

White woman puts Mexican flag on her truck to waste ICE’s time.
Scooby
I am as white as a hotel towel, and the closest thing to Mexican I am was a single all inclusive resort stay in Cancun. I put a Mexican flag sticker on my old Tacoma abd was promptly pulled over by ICE in San Antonio. I'm happy to waste their time

Their big question was like, "why the sticker" I told them it was on the truck when I bought it-and they suggested I remove it. Obnoxious creatures.

It's finally out! Am proud of this article that Megan Gaucher, Harshita Yalamarty, Asma Atique and I wrote on grandparent visa sponsorship in Canada! We make the case for the need to strengthen family reunification pathways and to include grandparents. theconversation.com/heres-why-ca... #canimm
Here’s why Canada’s parents and grandparents reunification program is problematic
International conventions dictate that families have a right to be together. But Canada’s current parent and grandparent reunification program makes that difficult.
