Donald Trump just bombed a hospital on Christmas. But a cashier at Target said "Happy Holidays" to me when I was doing a return this morning. I have never felt more politically homeless.

I care a lot about public safety. That means doing things that actually work. Not making up statistics to suit a PR narrative.

Unlike the county administration, when I use data, I show my work and cite my sources.
I had an "a-ha" moment after I crunched the numbers for JEDS and found the claims were inflated.
JEDS was supposed to tackle most troubled-youth.
But it wasn't legally able to do so.

Been like that for a long time not just with trump and it's fucking bullshit
Kind of wild how the take that some of Trump's supporters were "deplorable" was some huge scandal, but regularly screaming about "radical left scum" is just a thing he'll say with no media backlash.

"This story doesn't need a sandworm"

This is almost always wrong. Arguably, EVERY story benefits from adding a huge subterranean worm with quasi-mystical or semi-supernatural powers, or equivalent (similar to Moby Dick).

Obviously the bigger the worm, the more literary quality it adds.

He did so many things I liked but did nothing to stop the rise of facism.

This thread by a former NYT editor documents how the NYT came to push the Cass Review so hard over other reviews. It was dictated from the top by editors. They sidelined their own London reporter to put Azeen Ghorayshi on it.
How the nyt used the Cass report to restart its anti-trans propaganda campaign in the US:
Coverage of the report was initially assigned to a nyt UK correspondent, usual practice for a UK report. The story being prepared cited critics who called Cass a shoddy, political document that defied science
One reason the NYT has burned its credibility with trans people is that they still cite the discredited Cass report in reporting on trans healthcare. Never the German, Utah, or other systematic reviews supporting care. They also never provide the political context behind restrictions in care.

They didn't need to be bribed or blackmailed. This has been a conservative project for decades.
Democracy is their enemy. It allowed desegregation which conservatives never forgave America for.

AIRBNB LOBBYING FILES, PART 2: Monroe County attorneys actually asked that Airbnb provide data on room nights and addresses, even if we opted out of the registry. Those clauses disappeared from the final bill. /1

Last night's vote giving Airbnb what it wanted was about way more than a policy decision.

Morelle's kid - a lobbyist for Airbnb - was deeply involved since last spring in crafting the rushed opt out bill favoring Airbnb we are about to vote on.

Imo, this is tied to the quote about how conservatism relies on

1. ingroups are protected by law, but not bound by it

and

2. Outgroups are bound by laws, but not protected by them

Part of their protection is making sure you're never allowed to be away from them. You aren't allowed to be free
The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

Sorry I can't afford to send my refurbished antique phone to a landfill to get Tim Cook another house or keep Sundar Pichai's numbers up or whatever, but even if I had the choice I'd hang onto it for a decade just to spite their crooked asses
Pick a struggle

Either we're at fault for being poor because we keep buying things so consumerism must be discouraged

Or

The economy will fail if we don't buy things, so consumerism must be encourages

Woah!

Ontario passed a law starting Jan 2026 that it is illegal for companies to ghost you.

If you have interviewed for a job they are legally required to inform you if they hire someone else or close the position.

The law also requires salary transparency on listings and disclosing use of AI

If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand”

Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.
