One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

This works on the left too.

Attention
Polarization

His tribe, our tribe.

Rinse, repeat, ten years of this.
Trump's tweets aim to 1) Reclaim attention 2) Polarize the country. It has been his secret sauce for 10 years.

Here's how it worked with Jack Posobiec.

First: Oh, we won't be utter shitholes abt Reiner.

Then, the gotchas.

Then the denials.

Trump put him right back in the tribe.

RIGHT: Obscene gloating over Rob Reiner's death from a delusional sociopath who never should have been president.

Trump took his “stolen election” claims to more than 60 courts. Judges—Republican, Democratic, and Trump-appointed alike—found no credible evidence of fraud. Every case failed. Repeating a lie doesn’t make it true. #holdfast #getsmart #steadystate

What's striking about Trump's lies, and those of his apologists, is that they're not even plausible. They don't try to be plausible. As others have noted, that's kind of the point. True authoritarian control and power is telling a blatant and obvious lie, and showing you can get away with it.
Q: Can you explain what's going on with the bandages on Trump's hand?

LEAVITT: We've given you an explanation. The president is literally constantly shaking hands.

Roberts, Barrett and Kavanaugh were all on Bush's legal team, where they pushed unfounded legal theories. SC justices were already enmeshed in voter fraud myths.
