Kansas just passed a monstrous bill enabling criminal penalties and vigilante lawsuits for trans people using the bathroom according to their gender identity and requires them to surrender their current drivers licenses and birth certificates if it does not match their sex assigned at birth.

The FBI is taking over the investigation into the attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar.

On X, the dominant right-wing narrative is that the attack was staged, which is also what Trump suggested.

Chances are this FBI investigation will focus on Omar rather than the man who attacked her.
Rep. Ilhan Omar sprayed by man with syringe; FBI leading investigation
The FBI is taking over investigating the suspect who sprayed U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar with a liquid during her Minneapolis town hall on Tuesday.

Since we published this, Pam Bondi's X account has started posting mugshots of Minnesotans arrested for impeding ICE/CBP. Sharing a defendant's photo publicly in this way is forbidden under DOJ rules

ICE isn’t just targeting the Twin Cities. There’s horror stories in Mankato, Willmar and across Minnesota. Immigration attorneys are still getting hundreds of calls every day from every corner of the state.

ICE out now.

Kristi Noem doesn’t get to just retire
Attorney reveals conditions at ICE facility holding 5-year-old boy and his father:

"The families are not allowed to leave their dorms today. That is extremely unusual. I've never heard of that happening before. And they're trying to prohibit the children inside from exercising their free speech"

“This is terrorism”—this couple will be permanently radicalized by their experience.
A retired Minneapolis couple who had guns pointed at them by ICE in a church parking lot.

"They were obviously not trained at all. I've known many police officers in my life. These people were right off the streets."

"They had the professional demeanor of criminals."

Incredible. Millions are newly-mobilized, questioning how their taxes are being used to hurt their neighbors.

Republicans are in a terrible position.
Democrats have huge leverage.

And they may just go ahead and give DHS more money — as long as they slap on a few rules DHS is already not following.
Chuck Schumer just announced demands on DHS to avoid shutdown:
1. End roving patrols, tighten rules on warrants
2. Enforce accountability & unified code of conduct for agents
3. No more masks & require bodycams

There are *already* standards on much of this.

The issue is DHS isn't following them!

The full interview with Stella Carlson is worth your time.

In particular, the part around 13:30, about how ordinary people feel abandoned by local and state officials, and are left doing what they can—not much—to show solidarity with their neighbors, knowing local authorities will not protect them.
Exclusive: ‘Pink coat lady’ who recorded fatal encounter between federal officers and Alex Pretti speaks to Anderson Cooper | CNN
Anderson speaks with Stella Carlson, the witness who captured crucial video showing exactly what happened when Alex Pretti was shot and killed by DHS officers.

ICE are alllll over Harlem right now, 116 & Frederick Douglass, checking IDs and targeting the area’s African community. Multiple people have been detained.

Community members are advising folks to carry citizenship documents - or stay away if they are at risk

Something I've been trying to impart on people is that the ICE occupation in Minnesota is both an ethnic cleansing and an ideological terror campaign. It's clear that the second part has utterly failed; the community is not terrified. But ICE is now desperately trying to salvage the first part.

Amazing & courageous as HELL! Stella did what she could do. Because she filmed in the face of being shot herself, we know what happened to Alex Pretti. He was executed by ICE/CBP & she was brave enough to face ICE nazis down to film it all! #impeachtrump #dumptrump #abolishice #standup #resist

No, you do not need to give the new guy running the fascist death squad the benefit of the doubt.
"I'm gonna give Homan the benefit of the doubt"

"They should coordinate with local law enforcement, pick these people up in the middle of the night when they're not suspecting it"

Walz is capitulating to fascists and encouraging night raids. Genuinely disgusting. Why would anyone settle for this?

Honestly nothing feels different here today at all. There are still ICE raids all over, they're still letting people out at Whipple into the cold with nothing, and like you said, people still need food and rent money.
please remember that no matter how many “ICE is losing in MN” articles you read today, there is still a very real, urgent, ongoing crisis in Minnesota.

people need food and they need rent money. that has not changed.

This was an invented moral panic. The NYT and Fox News ran more stories about trans people than the Advocate, an explicitly LGBTQ publication. It was the exact same story in the UK. The media fanned the flames of a moral panic.
Just started doing new data analysis and I know I keep saying this, but: I really, really don't think people appreciate how much this moral panic was a deliberate and extremely expensive invention.
