You cannot reform this, because there is nothing to reform. This is the system working precisely as intended: an ongoing project of death, exploitation, control. It is made by people and requires constant maintenance. We can defeat it. We can win. The world we want is already here.

The Minneapolis pastor had observed "ICE agents circling a young woman who appeared to be Hispanic" and insisted they take him instead of harassing her. An agent then “came, got in my face, pointed a gun at me, and said, ‘Are you afraid now?’” trib.al/CZ3Lff5

Repressive occupying forces often believe that a few acts of horrifically unjustified violence will get the public to forfeit freedom and kowtow to them, especially if the violent is well publicized. But it usually does not work that way.
A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

Look, I too fought in the "People who make 150-400k in expensive cities are not rich" wars of the 2010s, but these takes need to be updated:

150k in 2010 was at the 90th percentile of HH income, but is at the 67th now.

200k in 2010 was at the 95th percentile of income, but is at the 79th now.

Yet another reason Newsom is a nonstarter. And a hypocrite, tbh given his troll posture the other 23 hours of the day when he isn’t spouting this ripe garbage.

The “breach” is not of decorum, but of whole communities and families destroyed, lives lost. No, I don’t think we’ll be “turning the page”
Newsom's already calling for a joining of hands with the Nazis and let atrocities be bygones.

I know there are trans men out there feeling alone and shitty right now, so in case nobody else says it today:

You, and your masculinity, are beloved by this lesbian. To be frank, knowing trans men is what has given me hope that we can overcome all this.

Our enemy is patriarchy, *not men*.

This is what I have been most struck by, tbh.

Renee is so open, grounded. Regulated. She is fully in control of herself.

It's like: 1.) achieving that level of groundedness and holding it is my goal, and, and 2.) it's so wild how THAT'S what they hate most. Someone who is calm and unafraid.

We evacuated our kids out of Minneapolis this weekend and my spouse reports that as she drove them out of town she saw "multiple freeway exits where people are being pulled over." It feels like the Twin Cities is being subjugated by a hostile occupying force.

Rep. @AOC: I understand that Vance believes shooting a young mother of three in the face three times is an acceptable America that he wants to live in, and I do not. That is a fundamental difference between Vance and I. I do not believe that the American people should be assassinated in the street.

It will only embolden them to commit even more blatant murder and crimes if local and state officials are blocked from accessing any of the evidence as what happened in the Minneapolis.

If you deny accountability via legal systems, the federal government begins to lose its legitimacy to govern.

Hot take of the day:

Social media peaked with mid-sized specialty internet forums, like, the stuff that was super common before and as FB was getting big. Strong moderation, no algos, common interests to draw folks together, but big enough to have robust off-topic spaces.

I miss those.

It is incomphrensible to Trump or Miller that someone would risk their life to try and keep a neighbor safe, that they would do so nonviolently, and that they would be mourned and remembered for it.

the woman killed by ICE today was 14 or so when the agency was created.

As a 37 year old who has been mad about ICE since creation, as a too politically aware teen, it's been heartbreaking seeing the agency sustained and expanded through at least two presidencies I had hoped would roll it back.

Let's talk about generative AI, contaminated information, and rhubarb.

Once upon a time, Europe was at war.

Food was scarce, and the government of the quote-unquote United Kingdom looked for alternatives. 1/

The longer generative AI exists, the more of what we take for granted is going to become toxic cognito-hazard waste.

We are living in the era of contamination.

It is happening all around us, and the people doing it have names and addresses. 13/13

Tonight, the President of the United States has launched an unconstitutional war of aggression, dooming another generation to spill their blood for oil, and lay waste to a sovereign nation.

I demand that Congress exercise its power, halt this conflict, and impeach this war criminal president.

You cannot have “AI” without having “machine that almost solely exists to create nonconsensual sexually explicit images of mainly women and children.” The former exists in tandem with the latter. That’s how this industry has worked so far, and it has only gotten worse with zero accountability

“Can’t believe NYC elected a Muslim as mayor.”

In truth—a Black American Christian woman swearing in a Ugandan American Muslim of South Asian ethnicity as his Syrian American wife holds the Qurans he swears in on, all while standing on the steps of a subway station—is the most NYC thing imaginable.

This is my last big piece of the year. I wrote it as much for myself as anybody else, because there's so many EOs, court cases, temporary successes, and reversals.

I wanted a place to put it all, something to come back to in future years, to keep the knowledge of what 2025 meant to trans rights.
