WTI Postdoctoral Fellowship applications are open! Unique opportunity for those pivoting fields or working across disciplines. I’d be happy to support candidates with a background in immunology and/or in vivo 2-photon imaging, including collaborations with other WTI labs wti.yale.edu/initiatives/...

What's the function of #histamine -1-receptors (H1Rs) on cortical astrocytes? @kiraposkanzer.bsky.social & co show that astrocytic H1R signaling modulates Ca2+ activity, extracellular adenosine & REM #sleep, revealing a key #astrocyte role in sleep-wake regulation @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/4gRj9Ap
Top: Example confocal micrograph showing astrocyte expression of S100β (green), Cre-RFP (magenta), and H1R mRNA (cyan). Left: summed z-projection of all three confocal channels. Middle: RNAscope detected H1R mRNA with white and yellow arrows indicating example WT (S100β+/RFP−/H1R+) and cKO (RFP+/H1R−) soma regions of interest (ROIs), respectively. Right: Cre-RFP expression (top, magenta) and S100β expression (bottom, green). Scale bars = 10 μm. Bottom: Example confocal micrograph showing astrocytic Cre-RFP (magenta), neuronal NeuN (green), and nuclear marker DAPI (blue). Left: summed z-projection of all three confocal channels. Middle: astrocytic Cre-RFP signal with astrocyte soma ROIs overlaid. Right: NeuN signal with astrocyte soma ROIs overlaid. Scale bars = 50 μm.

Really excited to see this work from my postgrad days come out of its "slumber" 💤 If you are interested in how astrocytes interact with neuromodulatory systems to regulate cortical states, this is for you!

Excited to present WHOLISTIC, which extends the concept of whole-brain functional imaging to the entire body. Pioneering work by incredibly talented Virginia Ruetten @vmsruetten.bsky.social, this platform reveals whole-organism cellular dynamics in vivo.

Now on bioRxiv! Astrocytes in one brain region (cyan) communicate in expansive networks (magenta). Through tool development, tissue clearing, and many hours on our @zeiss-microscopy.bsky.social Z1, we now know these networks are repeatable across mice, plastic, and specific.

I have seen folks waste so much time by not properly planning research. Missed literature, missing controls, ignored hypotheses, etc. Lack of planning also produces bad science (e.g. analysis until significant). So I am writing an app. Looking for feedback. scientific-paper-planner-test.vercel.app

Extremely proud to finally be able to present this work in the open🍾✨ We identify and manipulate astrocytic calcium-dependent ensembles in the NAc ✨✨ It gathers new tools, intense experiments and results that blowed our minds in the process at Navarrete's lab 🤯 Check it out! rdcu.be/d8qJi
Astrocyte ensembles manipulated with AstroLight tune cue-motivated behavior
Nature Neuroscience - Using the AstroLight system, the authors reveal that astrocytic ensembles in the nucleus accumbens regulate cue-motivated reward behavior, demonstrating that selective...

Are you using 5xFAD mice to study Alzheimer’s disease? Our work out today @cp-neuron.bsky.social may be relevant to you 🐁🧠 Age and sex are known to influence Aβ plaque burden in these mice. Here, we found that the transgene parentage is another strong determinant.

Thread below: (1/11)
Parental origin of transgene modulates amyloid-β plaque burden in the 5xFAD mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease
The 5xFAD transgenic model, popular in Alzheimer’s disease research, exhibits varying cerebral plaque burden depending on the parental source of the transgene. Mice inheriting the transgene paternally...
