Christmas is hard for many. The years roll, the ghosts at the table increase. We’re haunted by the absence of voices, of laughter engines who drank and ate with us. This can be day of remembrance rituals. For what it’s worth, Hooklanders near and far are in my candles today. Be gentle on yourselves.

Daughter has found her baking soda has inexplicably disappeared from her cupboard (essential for Christmas eve cookies). M is transporting her on a hasty mission to get some before the store closes (they have a half hour to do it).

Up well over an hour before sunrise since animal breakfast must be provided, regardless of the light levels. That said it's also cold out, so Puppy's trip outside post-breakfast was a short one and she's taken herself back to bed.

Man answering his phone on the train: Yes? Correct, I’m not at work (pause) I’m not going to answer that because I am not at work today. No, you’re going to have to ask someone who is. Goodbye.

*cranky* It's annoying that now when I see a cute animal picture I need to worry about provenance.

Me, grumbling at voice to text, "bemusement" is a perfectly good word and it is NOT "amusement".

Working from home today, because I woke up with a cough. Wish there was a post-holiday WFH quarantine after people have visted relations etc. If I am sick, I'm pretty sure it's from the man at the next desk on Monday who kept coughing.

More generally, wherever you are in the world: if you have kids’ toys, books, clothes or anything else in just-about-giftable condition that you were thinking of decluttering some time soon, please do it now, this week ideally, and get them to your local charity shop.
Hey Ottawa folks: I gave some kids' books to Twice Upon a Time and they said they've receved fewer donations than usual for this time of year. So if you have any kids' books in good condition, or time or money to spare, here's the info:

Summer weather - 18C in mid November is not normal (well, old normal) Taking advantage of it though to extend the fenced yard for the dog. Going to be 5 or 6x what she had (which was just enough for potty space, really).

Making tuna casserole for dinner. Tonight is not the night that I forget the time that I forgot to put the tuna in until after some 20 or so minutes in the oven when I noticed the cans sitting on the counter.

Here's how to turn it off.
