Bluesky intro post! Hello! I’m Kayli, a longhauler of almost 3 years, writing a MA Thesis on #LongCOVID & biopolitics. I also help conduct some studies on Long COVID in B.C.
Some of you may know me from IG, where I try to make learning about COVID science accessible via infographics.

Today we launched the Living with Long COVID exhibition @museumofvan.bsky.social. In 2023 we conducted a study in which we heard from longhaulers that this invisible illness needs more awareness and attention. This exhibition was co-created with longhaulers to do just that. On view until March 2026

It was standing room only at today's Living with Long Covid exhibit at the @museumofvan.bsky.social!

I was moved to tears by some of the personal stories on display. Such a great event
Long Covid researcher and activist Kayli Jamison speaks at today's Long Covid launch event at the Museum of Vancouver Selfie at event wearing a white headstrap zimi mask with purple flowers One of the stories that resonated - "I was able to venture out for an ice cream cone with a friend this day. I don't feel comfortable eating in restaurants or going to bars like most people my age. Spring and summer are nice beaches they give me more options to spend time outdoors with fewer people around - which means I get to see the people I love more often. Even short moments like this help me feel a little more like a "normal" 24 year old again Some of the personal stories on display. Droplet dogmatists deny that COVID is an airborne contagion for similar reasons why miasmatists once denied cholera is waterborne. If spread by droplets, then mitigation can be decentralised and passed on to “individual responsibility”.

1. Perhaps the most damaging blowback from the response to Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021 is the mainstreaming of a public health ideology that is rooted in a dangerous combination of survivorship bias, nostalgia, and the naturalistic fallacy.

Trump’s CDC is cancelling $11 billion in COVID funding allocated to health departments and nonprofits, claiming the grants are no longer necessary because the pandemic is over.

This is wrong. COVID is a continuing threat and millions have Long COVID. We still need to do more to mitigate its harms.

This is why I say the pandemic is just beginning (as a crisis of chronic disease). Instead of ending it with science-based intervention, we think emoting how “over it” we feel suffices.

Folks, very bad news for #LongCOVID. Deep breath.

29 awarded grants to do with COVID and Long COVID have been rescinded by NIH. 🧪

www.science.org/content/arti...
Science has learned that grant termination letters went out last night to principal investigators of 29 awards made by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), including nine grants that were part of a program hoping to deliver antiviral drugs to prevent future pandemics. Other terminated grants involved research to develop improved COVID-19 vaccines and to address Long Covid, the mysterious lingering aftermath of some SARS-CoV-2 infections. “The research is being treated like we already have all the answers we will need in the future and that the current vaccines work well enough and don’t need improvement, which we know is not true,” says an investigator involved with one of the NIAID grants who asked not to be named for fear of retribution. “Some of the studies being canceled were attempting to make a pancoronavirus vaccine, which would hopefully be available the next time a novel coronavirus jumps species into humans.”

This Long Covid Awareness Day, let's look at why people believe they don't know anyone with Long Covid.

We are in the middle of a mass disabling event that most people refuse to acknowledge.

When we face the truth & stop denying reality, we can save lives:
I Don't Know Anyone With Long Covid
Yes. You do. This Long Covid Awareness Day I want to talk about the reasons why many people don't realize they have Long Covid, as well as why others choose to hide their diagnosis.
