There is a company called Virtu Ferries. Citoyen Robespierre would approve.

Just seen an actual sail boat arrive in the Grand Harbour, brought in by two guide boats. All lit to he gills as it’s not yet fully dawn. Watching the boats might be the most fun I am having in Malta.

Bluesky are resharing this after they revealed yesterday that every photo uploaded here is sent to an external company that is selling GenAI services.

Note that none of them are actually confirming that none of these images are being used by that external company to train their systems.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

economy of the billionaires, by the billionaires, for the billionaires

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

There's always a baked in assumption that they'll get to be the served, not the servant.

The subtext of ‘we should be more like Dubai’, beyond the obvious racism, is ‘I should have a servant’.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

also I do feel like I have to mention that I had to learn things like "how to build a website" and "how to make a logo on Canva" for this, which was very hard for me, a jester and a buffoon by birth, so please do check it out, thank you

it's going to be so sick, I spent ages scouring art fairs, graduate shows and the whole wide internet to find amazing early career artists without formal gallery representation, come to the Outsiders Arts Club in November if you'd like to buy their art and also have a drink and learn stuff about art

Imagine this happening in the UK and not having to sigh 'what do their parents do?' every time you hear about a new band. Wouldn't it be great to hear music from somebody who isn't directly related to the Lord Admiral Wythenshawe Bloodfeast MP, the Butcher of Bangalore?

I am saying once again that the Conservative attack on the Arts is because they are incredibly envious of artists who they perceive as a group that has “too much” cultural power, a type of influence Conservatives crave but will never have because they’re anti-intellectuals with no imagination.

Best degree, I did three of them and no regrets.

a) an English degree does not prevent you from getting and doing a [scare quote] real job [scare quote]
b) there are things, goals, and values in the world other than money
but also c) last year the publishing industry's estimated worth to the UK economy was ELEVEN BILLION QUID.

Calling English a 'rip-off degree' is one of the most blatant exhibitions of personal barbarism I've ever seen. You've demonstrated nothing but the poverty of your own mind.

"Christ, we don't want people studying English, they might waste their time becoming teachers of our children! Or working in a massively profitable industry that gives us huge global soft power! Or just being able to parse the nonsense we spout and spot our Chat GPT bullshit!"

This lurid headline is about British tourists no longer getting away with overstaying in Schengen. Or being 'illegals', as it's often called in the UK.

I know this is uncomfortable to admit, but there is a small area in England's second city where people are just not integrated with the rest of society. Many of them hold views that arguably go against British values.

Yes, we need to talk about the Tory conference in Manchester.

I was so incredibly disappointed by how racist the literary translation community was when Han Kang won the Booker in 2016 and during Korea's early entry into COVID that I was amazed that I had further capacity to be disappointed in literary translators after Oct 7 during the genocide in Gaza

Someone just sent me Simon Calder's video whinging about the EU Entry-Exit System kiosk here, which is full of… let's call them inaccuracies, shall we?

It's not… accurate, it's not helpful, but it *is* an example of the very worst of British travel media rubbish.
