Hammerhead shark cephalofoils have several uses.
1) Extra surface area for the electrosensory system, useful for finding their prey that buries under sand
2) Pinning flat prey
3) Helping with very sharp turns

When I was a kid I read that we didn't really know why hammerheads have that head shape. Is there a better understanding of the reason for that shape today, or is it still a big mystery?
