This is fascinating. And exactly what I love about Bluesky 💙
A short 🧵

In a remote corner of Arctic Alaska, archaeologists have unearthed blue glass beads at sites like Punyik Point.

Hollywood Braces For Border Entry Crackdown
If Hollywood is looking for an "extinction level event," a crackdown on legal crossings into the U.S. might just fit the definition.

Reacquainting myself with my first wine love - Priorat - recently. Have just found someone has imported the Jean Simo wines into the UK - haven't had these since the pre-Brexit days of ordering from a small shop in Tarragona.

I stumbled on a post here about cats being allowed or not allowed outside and everyone was so certain about their view being 100% correct, no nuance or accounting for circumstance

Really quite enjoying the resurrection of authoritative voice overs in TV at the moment (see Bad Monkey, Kaos et al.).

Makes me want to watch Amelie, and to a lesser extent, Y Tu Mama Tambien, again.

Heads up to the science folks, since I know most of us are on Linkedin - they’ve started auto-opting people in for AI data scraping (and yes, I’ve confirmed the preference is there and defaults to on.) 🧪🧬🖥️

To turn it off, go to Preferences > Data Privacy > “Data for AI Improvement”.

Youtube gets a bad rap sometimes.... but despite all the disinformation, the muck-spreading and the cats it did give us Russell Brand's Parklife... which in many ways, is the Venus de Milo of our era.

We may be in a subprime AI crisis. The entire generative AI market is run on the back of unprofitable tech run at prices subsidised by big tech, and when OpenAI and others have to charge their real prices, there may be terrible consequences.

is it time to share my naomi wolf story on bluesky? I've talked about it before - I livetweeted it happening! - but I don't think I've shared it here.

Wolf and I were at Oxford at the same time, which is where she made the horrendous mistake in her doctoral thesis that this post references.
Easy misunderstanding- that’s 40% ‘Death recorded’

Compelling article on student politics, of all things, at the University of Alabama and how it is controlled by a secret organisation
Giving my absolute highest recommendation to this BAMA Confidential series from about the past and present of Greek Life at the University of Alabama. This deeply reported piece on 'The Machine' is a wild look at secretive generational power and institutions. annehelen.substack.com/p/inside-the...

Finally did it and deleted my Twitter account today. It was bad before but it's almost intentionally awful now.

Let's hope the few people I followed there that aren't here yet make the leap soon.

The number of stories around the supposed sell out of Oppenheimer 4k is crazy.

People used to be ridiculed for not building enough stock of a popular title. This is a fuck up and clearly the studio doesn't believe in physical despite protestations to the contrary.
