THIS

All AI can do for me is limit the things I will discover about my writing and myself as I do the work.
I will never use LLM for anything to do with my writing. Even my research is driven by good research practice, not AI. Why would I? I like the work. If you don't like doing the work, ask yourself why you're not actually doing something you do like to do, instead.

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

At my parents’ house until Christmas and they are very respectful of my night owl schedule except they have this habit of going to opposite ends of the house and then holding conversations by no-quite-shouting at each other.

Genuinely quite upset that I now have to live the rest of my life asking if things are AI or not actually.

Librarians and whoever it was that engineered the Trader Joe's checkout system should be in charge of all logistical things.

A gorgeous tarot deck caught my eye at the thrift store a while ago, and I've decided to get to know the cards a bit by doing flash fiction for whatever card I pull. This is the first one (and yes, the fact that it was The Artist did feel like A Thing).

My editing brain when I'm trying to just get a draft done: "This is the wrong word and you should spend 40 minutes trying to find the right one."

My editing brain when I'm ready to edit: "Okay but maybe we should check our phone one more time, someone might have sent us a very important message."

I want to read All of the Things and yet I have time to read Only Very Few of the Things.

I just pulled down the last note card, oh my GOD the dopamine hit of finishing a first draft.
I map out scenes I need to write by taping note cards to my kitchen cabinets and I just need everyone to know that I only have one cabinet left to write for this draft.

It all comes at once. Everything starts with a scene, and I go into that scene, and beyond it is another one, and then another one. The further I go, the more I discover - about the story, the characters, the world.

#SFFChat

October 14: Snippet - Night

"Past the bridge, a faint path made its way to the house, but it all but disappeared once the car headlights went off. The moon, barely a sliver as it was, had passed behind clouds, and the dark wrapped around them like a welcoming embrace."
Apologies that the October prompt list for #SFFChat is so late! When I wasn't able to get it done for the first I wasn't sure if I should do it, but in the end I made one.

Hope the continuation of the spooky theme isn't a bother--interpret the prompts as broadly as you need to (including snippets)

You know the voice in the back of your head that says no one wants to read your book?

Drown it.
Burn it with fire.
Get a bat and start swinging.

Don't let it exist and lie to you. Destroy it and keep writing.

Keep. Writing.
