It’s almost like green energy is the only way forward and a handful of oil barons are doing everything in their power to keep that from happening so they can get even richer at the cost of literally everything else in the world.
Wall Street’s biggest banks made more money financing green projects than they did from working with fossil fuel companies for a fourth straight year, even as they faced ongoing pressure to pull back from the business

Remember, folks.

We the people have power.
It’s easy to overlook.
But it matters.
Profoundly.

Let’s step it up.

The challenges we now face must be met by a bold progressive populist movement that strengthens democracy and shakes up the system.

We can’t simply return to the path we were on before Trump.

We cannot accept the status quo of Big Money dominating our politics and economy.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk is calling for the execution of his political opponents.

Oligarchic money, patriotic branding, weaponized division, and a cult of a “great man” eroding democracy from within is the story told in "Keeper of the Flame" (1942). It is also how a growing body of research now characterizes the authoritarian trend of Trump’s second presidency.

DOJ has produced < 5% of the Epstein documents Congress requested.

Even the material released raises troubling questions about Trump, Epstein, and Mar-a-Lago.

The rule of law depends on lawful compliance with oversight. What has been released so far does not resolve concerns. It raises new ones.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, the foreign-born or immigrant population (legal and illegal) in March 2024 was 51.6 million. Thus, if the administration deported 100 million people, it would have to deport roughly 48.4 million U.S. citizens to hit that target. #holdfast #getsmart

I basically agree with this thread. As bad as things are, they wanted them to be worse. Much worse. They’ll keep trying to make them that way, and we’ll keep fighting to stop them.

As @jeffsharlet.bsky.social says, there is so much still left to keep fighting for.
My Cassandra cred's pretty solid--20+ years on far right beat, ten on Trump, nobody ever accused me of being a ray of sunshine. But at the end of this bad year, I think this too is true: fascism took so much, & yet nowhere near all it could & wants. There's so much left to fight for.

*ICE (minimally regulated)
*private mercenaries (?)
