Money's a lil tight right now so making my services more widely available.

Audio editing/mixing/mastering for YouTube, podcasts, albums/EPs, etc.

If you want me to write for your website or consult on a piece you're writing yourself, I can do that too.

Lemme know if you're interested!

Also as hilarious as its soundtrack is part of me really wishes the end credits were soundtracked by Peter and the Wolf

I know I keep talking about it but I just finished Baby Steps. That ending got me choked up. Honestly my favourite game I've played in god knows how long. This feels like a real all-timer for me. Absolutely everything about it just feels so... perfect. I'm properly giddy about it all. ART, MAN

Have you ever considered that Minor Threat was actually a really fuckin good band

Working with editors early on made me realise that, truly, maybe the biggest problem with YouTube criticism is no one has to work with an editor
olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social
repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself
blipstress.bsky.social
An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

ASSASSIN'S CREED IS ARTLESS BILGE BUILT FOR BROKEN BRAIN BABIES BY CONFIRMED CORPO COWARDS. GET IT TO FUCK

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

Scoop: Ubisoft cancelled a post-Civil War Assassin’s Creed last year
Company leadership deemed the project too controversial for the moment, sources tell Game File

I mean sure they are both I guess but again, the distinction between "review" and "critique/analysis" doesn't actually mean much! No one has put it in a way that has convinced me, and frankly my point is that I think on YT it's focused on by pedants trying to sidestep/poke holes in actual criticism
lilgief.bsky.social
A review is what you make when talking about software and a critique/analysis is what you make when talking about a piece art.

Gamer types have a really hard time understanding that video games are both at the same time.
writingongames.bsky.social
Yuuuuuup. Multiple thumbnails didn't meaningfully alter anything in my experience, but titles have been having a real impact on performance. As you say, irritating but also like, it helps me freak out less about wording stuff the right way so I'm Going With That One
writingongames.bsky.social
(to be clear I get what OP is saying and I'm not aiming this at them, more just the commenters on videos who go to great lengths to tell me I'm supposedly doing something completely different to what I thought. Big Reddit "um actually" energy)
writingongames.bsky.social
Eh, I find the distinction (especially in the YouTube games space) to be almost entirely meaningless. For me, how it functions as art IS its value. The debate when I post a review and someone's like "THIS ISN'T A REVIEW IT'S CRITIQUE/ANALYSIS" just makes me do the biggest air wank gesture possible
lazerzz.bsky.social
I think people also forget you are usually providing a critique, not a traditional review. “Is the game worth your time and money?” isn’t the same as “how does the game function competently as art?” Sometimes they overlap, but I think commenters often get the two twisted far too often.
writingongames.bsky.social
It's something you just kind of have to block out when you do this long enough, but there's still a part of me that looks at this stuff - all the wild shit people have in their heads about who you supposedly are, for the sake of validating *video game opinions* - and finds it pretty disheartening!
writingongames.bsky.social
One thing it's hard to really communicate to those who don't do this is the extent to which people will just assume/make shit up about complete strangers, and others will just buy it if it lines up with their preconstructed view of a piece of art.

Don't be a weirdo! Be a thinking adult! Be human!
writingongames.bsky.social
One of the funnier criticisms I got on my Yōtei review was that I *clearly* just play way too many of those games. Not everyone completes every single massive open world that comes out man! You're just out of touch and your criticisms invalid!

My guy... I barely play *any* of those games either!!!
writingongames.bsky.social
Clicked on one of those anti-woke grifter vids on Yōtei and it's hard to imagine a more depressing online existence. Dude was like "I watched the cutscenes. here are my thoughts on Ghost of ANTIFA" like come on dude no way you actually care about this shit. Don't waste your life being a fuckin dafty

More words from me. Kicking off this week working with my old coworkers over at Aftermath; talkin' about Silent Hill f!

Let's talk about one of the game's most memorable puzzles. It's about tricking yourself because "did something just move?"

It's also about leaning close and getting intimate...

We simply do not exist

(Errant Signal, Noah Caldwell-Gervais, Static Canvas, Pixel a Day, Super Bunnyhop, Thorhighheels, Games & Culture... tons more I could name but that gives you a pretty broad selection to choose from for now)

The other day I got to a big reveal in that game that bummed me out for the rest of the day (Extremely Positive). Not kidding when I say Nate is one of the absolute best video game characters in years
marioprime.bsky.social
The thing that’s fucking wild about Baby Steps is that it includes stuff like this, some of the funniest shit I have ever seen in a game, and also has scenes that will gut you in ways you just won’t see coming.

i get that people want video game stories to be something other than this, but i actually don't get it youtu.be/wtGXXUAcqak

It isn't really a surprise but it's still truly baffling the ease with which those on the American right denounce "antifa" as if it's some actual organisation, and with absolutely zero self-awareness that to publicly oppose it in the way they do is to label themselves the "fa"
