Again, the current Wikipedia page for “Film Criticism” claims movie critics make an average of $63,474 per year. This is MUCH more than most critics make. It also claims TV critics make $40,000-60,000 per month. PER MONTH.

Absolutely this. I had someone who has made movies you heard of ask if I knew of any openings where I work so they could make ends meet. It's the dumbest assumption and I hear it every time there's a disaster around here.
