See, only fringe figures like the Israeli defense minister are framing Israeli action as collective punishment

A politically paralyzed France has had four prime ministers in the past 20 months and appears on the verge of adding a fifth, a degree of instability suggestive of institutional crisis and unknown since the establishment of the Fifth Republic in 1958.
France, at an Impasse, Heads Toward Another Government Collapse
A vote of confidence scheduled for Monday appears set to topple Prime Minister François Bayrou and put more pressure on President Emmanuel Macron.

I’m not that keen on the Taliban but I am glad that Afghanistan is finally at peace. Been thinking a lot about that country lately. From the Herat rising to the time we left. I hope things get better there.

Part of me wants to get a big following on here so I can solicit opinions on various things but part of the reason I nuked my twitter is because I have (had?) a big following and it just got… yeah

I see the replies are still doing "everything in the USG on UKR was Jake Sullivan and only Jake Sullivan's fault" discourse

I don't give a shit about Sullivan but we're going to continue to miss the roots of the problem
1) you’re allowed to have more than one group doing advance planning

2) Wolfers is cool

3) they didn’t use up a good name

Anyway I might have an idea for this

Reply with your most substantive gripes about Dem FP
There were 3 core issues on FP in the Biden Admin:

- a principal who would not be swayed on Gaza. Whether this should be disqualifying to any political who stayed on is a conversation that should be had

- a feckless OSD that was unwilling/unable to bring the JS, CCMDs, and indeed itself to heel

Turns out IAF did have tanker support from USAF, obvious in hindsight can’t believe I missed that.

Some historians traced the origins of the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war back to the pre-Islamic rivalry between the Babylonian and Achaemenid empires 🤷‍♀️
Only in the Middle East are relatively comprehensible modern conflicts rooted in the balance of power of nation-states reduced to quasi-mystical "ancient hatreds."

“Why would he turn off the replies?”
Absolutely laughable to call gaming "one of the most expensive hobbies around" because a video game costs ten dollars more. Gamers are children and should be treated with distain.

Just going to point out that in just the last month we’ve seen the most intense, multi-modal warfare between two nuclear-armed states ever (India & Pakistan) and now possibly the largest-ever attack on nuclear-capable assets in a nuclear state (UA vs Ru, today).

The times they are a-changin’.

for the record this is a classic motte-and-bailey. Missile defense at tac level works is the motte, NMD/GBM works is the bailey. also, Bret has a very poor understanding of anything tactical-operational as amply demonstrated by his twitter threads.
I agree the 'golden dome' seems strategically pretty damn silly, but I'm going to need you to unpack "doesn't work" here, given that missile interception has become a pretty regular wartime occurrence and my understanding was that anti-ICBM capability has been demonstrated as well in tests.

Friendly reminder that if OPSEC actually important for you, Signal is really not ideal. PGP encryption and an anonymous proton mail are far far superior in that respect.
Opsec isn't defeatism, modeling risks is a useful skill, using Signal to make it more expensive for the government to surveil you doesn't imply taping your mouth shut and burying your head in the sand, I don't know why any of this is controversial

Found a paper giving a pretty good overview of the Iskander complex vis-a-vis the INF treaty. Lot of interesting detail, I never knew it was more a successor to 9M714 Oka than to Elbrus/Tochka-U.
