I love the convenience of streaming, but for any movie or show that I really love, I want to own a physical copy. The quality often better, and it is much less likely to disappear suddenly if a license expires or a company merges out of business. And disks often have cool extras.

This is also from Fate/Zero's AI closed captions on Crunchyroll, and I didn't wanna post from the same series twice, but imagine comically fucking up the iconic 🎵A-NI-PLEX🎵 jingle.
Second image is from episode 25. End of thread.

Netflix buying WB terrifies me, but there's a chance they're not full of shit about continuing theatrical and other legacy businesses.
Neo-Paramount is VERY untested and early indications see them veering towards dude-bro crap. They could crash.
WB by itself was over, we need to accept that.

Please tag me if you see any anime that appears to plainly be using AI transcriptions for closed captions. That's CLOSED CAPTIONS (SDH) for ENGLISH DUBS, not subtitles for Japanese audio. I wanna publicly keep track of some of these and start holding platforms accountable.

Amazon, no. You cannot tell me that bleeding hemorrhoid of a "dub" you did to Banana Fish was at all vetted by a human.

Prime Video begins an AI dubbing pilot program on licensed movies and series
AI-aided dubbing will help you enjoy titles that previously did not have dubbing available in select countries and territories.

That high feel you feel when you've finished writing a ~75 page security SOP.

That low feel you feel when you realize that few will probably bother to read it unless there's an oh-shit moment.

The studio I work at doesn't use AI in any of its ADR workflows nor wishes to. But the FOMO is real.

Clients we lose to AI don't expect “good.” They expect “good enough” that you won't complain... much.

How this all goes depends on fans being crystal clear that AI slop will never be "good enough."

Let me give some insight on this, as a producer in the dub industry who worked with major streamers, who's witnessed first-hand where this push for AI is coming from.

tl;dr: Only CEOs want this. Tell them how much you hate it. Be loud, email, call, @, post. You will kill this.

🧵⬇️
The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

This is actually as bad as an early 2000s hentai dub.
These AI chodes have been circling anime trade shows for a few years now. Little wonder Amazon was first to bite. 🙄

The thing about fansubs is regardless of anything else that may be going on, ultimately fansubs are made by someone who *really cares about what they're making*. That actually was true at one time at Crunchyroll. It is not true now.

On MacOS 26:

Me: "Oh I need to save this image"
Safari: "I am sorry Dave I cannot let you do that"
Finder: "You've got 138Mb left only!!"
Me: "But, but I'm saving only a 700kb image??!!! gosh darn it."
*dismiss Save Dialog*
Finder: "You now have 3Gb space"

Huh?

It's interesting how this all flows from a single regulatory requirement: Steam asks developers to disclose GenAI usage on their store page, while no other store does this

Just finished watching Wolfwalkers.

The word "exquisite" does not even begin to do justice in describing it. Ultra-highly recommend.

I'm more than a little saddened that no US Blu-Ray for it is available.

This is awful, and Diaz has QTP'd that they have insider info that @crunchyroll.com execs consider the current backlash against their enshittification of subtitles too small to matter.

They've bent to backlash before tho with trying to lower video quality.

This is an important one, anime fans.

Google Gemini is so not ready for prime time.

Great for short questions & tasks, but if writing... oh, I dunno, a 15 page policy document with deep context it melts like an ice sculpture in the Sahara, and with every new prompt it thinks you're asking something from like 50 prompts ago.
