Goes back to the Iraq War in my personal experience but really: these politicians and most of the press agree that the left are simply scum who must be harshly suppressed, and the reasons for believing they’re scum are largely incidental and open to constant revision.
As we say all the time: Labour hates the left more than it hates actual fascists & cares about antisemitism insofar as it can be weaponised against the left even though this sets back the battle against rising antisemitism & further undermines Jewish safety

I invite you to ask yourself why the language of protestors has been a terrifying daily concern, but e.g. successive governments giving the US unlimited use of our airbases to fly a gajillion dollars of weapons of destruction into Israel for use on huge numbers of civilians is not concerning at all.

Cruelty is anhedonic. It rarely delivers the euphoria promised because, in the abstract, what feels righteous and joyful inevitably reveals itself to be sordid and small. Then it's "No not like that". "No not enough". "No the real battle, the forever war to make this feel good starts now". Forever.
Note how these awful people are getting exactly the exclusions of children that they demanded and *that still isn’t enough for them*: they demand everyone be delighted about it and kiss their arses for being brilliant.

Goodwin's palpable disgust for black and brown people is, of course, a colonial inheritance. But the "national" prosperity that made Britain's welfare state possible is in no small part a colonial inheritance too, plundered from places like Africa and south Asia. He might show a little gratitude.

They are primarily against *our own government*, and it's complicity in the genocide being carried out by the Israeli state. The home secretary's remarks should be seen in that context.
