The rise of people like Lander and Walz, whose ideologies don't exactly match mine but have the exact right combination of "love thy neighbor" and "fuck you, asshole" attitudes, is massive positive for people who care about left of center politics

In China & India, the growth in electricity demand has "decoupled" from the growth in fossil fuels. The next step is for fossil fuel demand to plateau & head down, even as economic growth continues. Should happen in the next few years. Believe me, when it happens you'll hear some cheering.

Trump has created the illusion of getting a lot done because:
a.) Whereas past administrations were constrained by their inclination to obey the law, he doesn't give a shit
b.) He cares more about the illusion part than the actually getting stuff done part
c.) The media falls for it every damn time

Extremely proud to say the Bay Area Council is backing both of these bills. We need legislative leaders who stand up and actually propose to end the housing crisis. Sen @scottwiener.bsky.social and Asm @buffywicks.bsky.social are two such leaders. calmatters.org/housing/2025...
Will this bill be the end of California’s housing vs environment wars?
The final showdown in that long-standing battle may have just arrived.

It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

Berkeley people - show up to speak up FOR bikes! FOR all ages and abilities!

Our city staff too often hear from people *against* things. But we know that’s not representative of general sentiment.

So show up to one of these events with enthusiasm and your hopes for what we can achieve!

Among Jimmy Carter's many contributions were his efforts to eradicate the Guinea worm, a parasite which causes excruciating pain.

When he started his work, there were 3.5 million cases globally. In 2024, there were seven.

He didn't quite get his wish of outliving it, but he came pretty damn close.

Housing and voting data show that the counties where it’s hardest to buy a home saw the biggest shifts toward Trump.

Across the country Tuesday, counties moved toward Trump by a median of 3.1% ... But in the top 10% of counties ranked most difficult for buying a home, the median shift was 4.5%.
Data: America’s toughest housing markets swung toward Trump
As counties moved right on Election Day, the NBC News Home Buyer Index shows those with tough housing markets shifted more sharply.

Both swept up hundreds of thousands of US citizens in the process - many of them children. open.substack.com/pub/greattra...

Across the country we're going to see a continued destruction of higher education, criminalization of women's healthcare and abortion access, and attacks on trans rights.

We, as Berkeley, as the Bay Area, and as California need to build housing so we can welcome red state refugees with open arms.

In the final days of the 2024 campaign, Trump never failed to tie Kamala to California. It's a problem that the state most associated with Democratic governance has has utterly failed on the cost of living issues that moved the median voter. My latest for @reason.com:

As skyrocketing costs and mass exoduses define the Golden State, Democrats face a crucial reckoning.
