Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

“Over the past 20 years, Paris has undergone a major physical transformation, trading automotive arteries for bike lanes, adding green spaces and eliminating 50,000 parking spaces.

Part of the payoff has been invisible — in the air itself.”

Leadership, strategy, real action, common sense. #Paris
Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.
Air pollution fell substantially as the city restricted car traffic and made way for parks and bike lanes.

Dr Demetre has always been an inspiration.
#FedWorkerFriday meet @drdemetre.bsky.social as he addresses a crowd across from CDC, Aug 28.

He resigned 8/28/25 as Director of National Center for Immunization & Respiratory Diseases at CDC.

He will be missed. We are excited to have him fighting along side us to #savepublichealth & #saveCDC.

Is London set to put the brakes on SUVs?
The number of SUVs in London has increased tenfold in 20 years, prompting calls to curb their use.

It’s outrageous that we’re deporting people to a foreign gulag without so much as a show trial. But according to this article, the man was falsely accused of gang membership back during the Biden admin. Parts of the U.S. gov have been hostile or indifferent to foreigners for quite some time now.

I still think they could have kept it going for a few more days.
This is a moral moment. It’s not right or left, it’s right or wrong.

Let’s get in good trouble.

My friend, Madame President…(voice breaking with emotion)

I yield the floor.

That’s some good trouble.
Booker finally yields after more than 25 hours of speaking 👏👏👏

It’s impossible to overstate how deranged, dangerous, and inhumane, what just happened is.
These HHS RIFs are reckless and cruel. In a typical RIF, employees aren’t locked out immediately—they stay to wrap up work and ensure a smooth transition. Instead, this admin abruptly shut everyone out, creating chaos that harms both workers and the people they serve.

"Replacing the SSA’s core infrastructure with an entirely new system all at once is performing a high-wire act without a net, only it’s not DOGE staffers who risk falling—it’s the Social Security beneficiaries who depend on that social safety net."
I wrote about DOGE's planned SSA "modernization" for MSNBC.

"It’s like cooking a Thanksgiving turkey in 20 minutes by putting it in a blast furnace, or choosing to get measles instead of getting vaccinated against it: it sounds most convincing to the layperson who asks the fewest questions."
Opinion | DOGE’s new plan to overhaul the Social Security Administration is doomed to fail
Modernizing the SSA’s technical infrastructure is not a novel idea – and such modernizations have a poor track record.

And the loss of tech expertise goes beyond the gutting of these two agencies. USDS spent a lot of effort helping federal agencies build their capacity and hire technologists. Guess what, most of those new hires were either terminated in the probationer purge or are about to get RIFed.
New, from me: Musk is not just destroying core government functions, he is also destroying the tech capacity of government.
The people with serious tech skills who care about fixing govt have been fired. Both 18F and the US Digital Service are gone.
