Dartmoor is magical and this beautiful photo captures it wonderfully.
One more Dartmoor shot, if only because this looks like something out of a Lord of the Rings movie. This was taken in about 60 minutes of sunlight at the end of what had been a relentlessly rainy day.

Dartmoor is England's last true wilderness, and receives millions of visitors each year. It's easy to see why - Dartmoor is beautiful. From the annual Ten Tors event for school kids, to the Dartmoor Classic sportive, to smaller events like Dartmoor In A Day, to just casual visitors and families having a picnic, Dartmoor caters to all. And therein lies the problem.

Dewerstone: What looks to us like a 'proto dolmen', pictured here as part of a Dartmoor rock outcrop. Also stone walls and gaps known as a tor enclosure (a site which resembles a Neolithic causewayed enclosure), with later Bronze Age hut circles and hillfort.

The Supreme Court has unanimously upheld the right of the public to wild camp on #Dartmoor commons 🙌

Bringing an end to this long-running legal fight, today's ruling has shown the power of the access community when people work together & challenge threats to our #AccessToNature ✊🌳

The #Dartmoor ruling opens up *responsible* recreation - it is not to be mistaken as a ‘free-for-all’. It’s high time the Countryside Code was actively promoted more widely again to balance the concerns. #LeaveNoTrace
bsky.app/profile/mole...
It’s not ‘irresponsible campers’ though, really. Lockdown was an exceptional mess, but its more the General Public ‘picnicking at Cadover Bridge on a Bank Holiday Weekend’ problem. The #CountrysideCode hasn’t been properly promoted back into public consciousness for decades. That’d be a good start.
