#ødegaard
If 3 attacking injuries takes out your entire frontline, that’s on you and your squad building. At least that’s what Liverpool fans told us when we lost Havertz, Martinelli and Jesus while Saka was still out and Odegaard was half-fit having been injured earlier in the season.

Wirtz will be no worse than odegaard and Fernandes when he's fully acclimatised.
Same with Hugo, its just a transition period for them

Opportunities for AFC:

With how LFC chose to push their wingers back to defend the halfspaces - it created big spaces in for the AFC CBs to drive into & pull defenders out:

Watch Odegaard pointing to Saliba to drive into the space but he chooses to stop & pass backwards.

First half:

Arsenal built up in a familiar (3-2) base that often became a back 3 by dropping one of Zubimendi/Rice/Ødegaard into the backline, freeing the fullbacks to push into the halfspace or wide.

Also: keep an eye on Gakpo checking his shoulder for Timber (out of screen).

I can imagine it's frustrating being teased by Saka, then Odegaard and then Timber, as they pretend to cross it and then pass it amongst themselves. It would be very difficult to time your run.
Then get an Odegaard overhit in-swinger, a Saka shot or a Timber mis-hit cross. I'm sure he's fed up too.

If you cut out everything before the October international break, his npxg and xa numbers/90 (in EPL at least) look very close to 23-24 (though still worse than last year). But prob a combo of no Ødegaard for huge stretches + lack of consistent CF play are playing a role too.

My main issue with Arsenal/Mikel in one picture

Hincapie & Timber circled - closet to Gyokores

Zubimendi CB
Odegaard deep
Trossard high & wide
Saka (off the screen) covered by a FB

Why are we prioritising getting our FBs into advanced areas at the expense of actual attackers?

Arsenal, and I think Nwaneri himself, see him as a #10. The problem is they bought Eze who they are playing in the same position. Arteta rarely plays Odegaard and Eze in the same lineup (he'll play a CB there if he could get away with it lol), so Nwaneri stands no chance. They won't sell to us.

I'd say all of Leo, Rice, Odegaard, Eze & Martinelli were far off of my expectations. Gyokores had his best passing game, including two good vertical balls, but did nothing else. He was closer to par, but it isn't good enough. 3 starters & 2 subs being far off par is more why we didn't win.

100% agreed. Love the guy and the player, but there's not one performance that has impressed me until now. And Odegaard is picking up pace, Trossard having a career season... Will be tough for him to be more involved me thinks
January 9, 2026 at 1:50 PM
Definitely! Zubi between the CB and then Rice and Odegaard were in the FB position. Timber was the one getting the ball in dangerous areas and didn’t make the most of it.

The pitch conditions don’t contribute, felt like all of our guys really played within themselves

Liverpool had got on top and a change was needed. Saka and Ødegaard were replaced by Madueke and Eze which saw Madurke proceed to rinse Kerkez in a similar vein to what Saka had done in the first half. 😜
January 9, 2026 at 10:15 AM
You need players with brave personality to ignore the fear. Saka has it, Rice has it, Calafiori has it. Odegaard sadly does not, Hinicapie certainly hasn’t on the ball.
January 9, 2026 at 10:03 AM
Yeah, I imagine that was more the plan. Gyokeres, Madueke, Eze as players to take advantage of teams tired by 70 mins of pressing from Kai, Odegaard, Saka.
January 9, 2026 at 10:03 AM
Yeah. He can't play on the wing, he certainly won't ever be a left 8. And he isn't actually an Odegaard replacement because he's a totally different type of player, he can't do what Odegaard does. Can't even come close to it. So is he someone we just chuck on after 70 mins when we're desperate?
January 9, 2026 at 9:29 AM
Yeah the profile is right, just feels like he might end up being third choice striker once Havertz is fit. The Eze thing is so weird, never felt like an Arteta player and we don't really see to have found a way to use him at all when Odegaard is fit
January 9, 2026 at 9:20 AM
He’s never going to be Odegaard. People will disagree but I see him more as a Trossard longer term. Arteta don’t trust him defensively and rightly so after Villa. But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen longer term. For me Eze more a clutch left forward option.
January 9, 2026 at 6:48 AM
That's harsh on Ødegaard, I would say. He is a decent guy.
January 9, 2026 at 4:41 AM
Maybe he goes to the back post to drag defenders away and someone else (Odegaard, Rice etc) has space for a cutback? Either way I want Jesus or Merino to start against Forest, Gyokeres isn't doing enough for me.

He could of played Saka in the right 8 and take Odegaard off , Eze playing left 8 and take Rice or Zubi off , we wanted to get the winner
January 8, 2026 at 11:15 PM
A few seasons back they had a nice little White Odegaard Saka triangle going. Where’s that idea gone? It seems to be all about Calafiori & Timber underlaps now.

I wonder if Arteta prefers Havertz/Merino over Gyokeres/Jesus.

And don’t get me started on the comparisons between Saka and Salah. 😅
January 8, 2026 at 10:49 PM
No Arsenal player came out with any credit (maybe except Saka in 1st half) rest were below standards.

MLS was very dodgy on every ball, Gyokeres as usual, Rice and Odegaard didn’t impose themselves on the game like usual.

Hate that Liverpool took 4 points off us.
Take the point and move on lads

If I was odegaard I would be apologising aswell as making sure dick smelly apologises #lfc
