I read "13 ways of driving through New Jersey" at the Watershed Poetry Reading this afternoon, and was happy at the reception it got
I have gotten off the parkway at exit 100 and driven a little ways east to Ocean Grove and Bradley Beach. II I have taken exit 105 for Long Branch and exit 116 for Holmdel but I have never been to the PNC Arts Center. III I drove north to exit 172: the top of the parkway. IV Route 17 runs north to New York. Route 202 runs north to New York. V I do not know which way is better, the turnpike to the bridge, or route 46. The slowness and congestion, or stopping at every crossing. VI We drove down the old shore road from Long Branch to Asbury. The sky was clear and empty. Across the sand dunes to our left, we could see the ocean. VII If you take the Holland Tunnel be sure to get on to the local side of 78, so you don't miss the Maplewood exit. VIII Route 9W runs along the top of the cliff above the Palisades. IX I thought that I had lost my EZ Pass. It was underneath my seat. X Never been to Toms River. Never been to Cape May. I've been to Atlantic City but no desire to return. XI We were driving down the turnpike to Philly, but we missed the turn at exit 6. XII Headed west on 80. The sun is in my eyes. XIII It was evening all afternoon. It was snowing and it was going to snow. The parkway stretched out into the distance. Me reading the poem

this was a long one that came pouring out of me today one of four poems today but this is my favorite of the daily #poetry
## Wildwood history stands across the road from its funhouse mirror reflection a simulacra of the gaudy this town is one part museum one part amusement park an imaginary past no different from main street u.s.a. with a different claim to fame all neon lights and plastic palms doo-wop disharmony by design that went over my head as a child passing by at night in the back seat of the station wagon there was no fundamental difference between the package store sign and the motels we would never stay at their mystery was their appeal places for adults or for families that came from further afield than the other side of the cape passing through the incongruity of a town called rio grande and through marshy wetlands along a river of red lights the place wasn't so poignant then mid-century motels nothing more special than places to cram tourists at the peak of the summer season sometimes we would stop for dinner as a place preserved in amber all powder blue and coral formica tables with chrome edges i was too young to connect this with the chrome rimmed dining table in the celadon metal kitchen and the massive steel window fans in the bedroom windows already antiques when i was born i accepted their reality their normality like i accepted the changing of seasons like the endless expanse of sand a mile or more perhaps between the boardwalk and the dark green ocean waves by night the beach was barren and we rarely came by during the day preferring the nighttime chaos of amusement park rides and video arcades the options expanded with age growing height and more independence some things changed and some departed but the sound of it stayed constant distant screams from rollercoasters or the repeated staccato recording of "wa-wa-wa-watch the tram car please" that echoed up and down the boardwalk dracula's castle burned down on a winter night between seasons and by then we were on our way out a child becoming a teenager on the cusp of a distant adulthood away from home so we packed up the old shore house leaving the motels and their signs the beaches and the boardwalk behind

Day 5: Visually beautiful 2025 drama.

The team that worked on #TheGlory did a beautiful job with the cinematography, costumes, and set designs.

And #MoonRiver has had some stunning landscape shots so far.

They are hugging outside in the courtyard, in the middle of two walkways, like standing in the middle of a large lower case t shape. There are footprints in the snow around them. It appears as if they are hugging each other but it's actually Park Dal-i holding up the unconscious Crown Prince. A wide shot of Hanyan sitting outside at a table with a teapot and a candle on it. Her personal maid stands in the background. It's nighttime, there are a couple hanging lanterns dimly lighting the spot where Hanyan sits. The area around her is mostly dark but there is enough light to notice that she's perfectly placed between the pillars holding up the roof of the gazebo-like structure she sits in. A wide shot of Chai Jing and Hanyan sitting on a ginormous rock by the ocean. Their backs are to the camera, and they are leaning in close to each other. Water surrounds the rock they are on, but the waves are calm. There is an island or other coastline much further off in the distance. Beyond it is endless blue sky and water.

You can catch flounder right from the riverbanks of the Halifax River in Daytona Beach. We used to wade in the ocean where I lived in NY & catch striped bass. I really don’t like bluefish so yuck.

Yesterday was chilly and it was wicked windy, a good day for a walk at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge.

I saw a few other people & a handful of birds.

I saw sand blowing across the beach.

I felt the wind pushing me, trying to control my forward progress.

Waikiki Beach at Cape Disappointment where Nch'i-Wána, "The Big River" meets the Pacific Ocean. Named after a Hawaiian sailor whose body washed ashore there in 1811. His ship was wrecked during an unsuccessful attempt to cross the Columbia River bar.

It was convenient to step out on our veranda to capture sunsets and lakefront scenes for the past decade, but we’re still moments away from both the Atlantic Ocean and the LaHave River, can’t complain. 🙏🏻 We went for a short drive today, I took 100 pictures, here’s four. 😊📷

I almost never do plein air painting, but when I do, I make sure it's only on vacation apparently. Here are the two I got around to this year: Eagle Beach in Alaska, and a hotel in Kauai, HI.
