I worked in SF at CALPIRG in the 90s and quit when I realized how most of the donations we received just managed to pay us to do the work. Educational outreach is important for sure, but it felt deceitful to ask for donations when most of it went just to pay us to keep asking.

As a CalPIRG field manager Autumn 1982, Motley Crue was the house band at the Keystone, almost across the street from our new HQ we moved into c. October, on Shattuck.

I flew half way across the world to vote for Kamala in person, after my name was removed from the voter rolls. I’ve attended so many protests. I’ve voted with my dollar for 30 years. I’ve worked for CalPIRG. I’ve donated to NPR, PBS, to the Green Party.
Now, I’m just heartbroken.

The PIRG groups also hired unknowing people to picket and protest things they knew nothing about.

I remember CALPIRG (Calif.) protesting at Audi dealers in the 80s saying their cars killed people when in fact the accident were all determined to be caused by driver error.

Incredibly ignorant group.
