#Fatuousness
It’s amazing how lucrative fatuousness can be these days. It and AI are our only two growth industries. (Probably not a coincidence.)

Why are we in the stupidest Hunger Games ?
Capitol decadence and fatuousness coupled with cruelty in the districts. Plastic surgery in the leadership class
Cruelty as the point.
Donald Trump just announced the creation of the “Patriot Games,” an “unprecedented four-day athletic event” with “one young man and one young woman from each state and territory.”

It’s been over 20 years since I said the end of American “Empire” would bring increasing fatuousness and fecklessness as our power ebbed and the “common” (derogatory) people realized they couldn’t boss other countries around.

This is not what I was predicting. But yeah, I guess it makes sense.
The drums are getting louder:

Fallon, the Drew Barrymore of late night, is the shill who keeps on shilling for the grift that keeps on grifting. Their successes owe to their ability to camouflage that they are shills, wch they have done by refining a sincere affect, ironically, out of unctuous enthusiasm & sheer fatuousness.

Ok, I've been exposed by this guy: bsky.app/profile/mjsd... I retire from the issue for now, but will return later with more fatuousness, completely ignoring anything I've written here.
By the end of the ratification debates, everyone understood that the 14th Amendment would grant birthright citizenship to the children of immigrants. The only live question was whether that was a *good* thing. Some senators argued it wasn’t. But they lost! applyliberally.substack.com/p/birthright...

they are totally untethered from any world. they aren't in touch w the people, they don't do politics, they don't understand business or econ, they have zero understanding of science or med, most don't have regular contact with young people. they are floating in an ether of their own fatuousness.

Trying to avoid fatuousness — that trap where silliness feels like wisdom in the moment.

“The book’s through line is a familiar tension between clueless American policymakers and subordinates more in touch with local anger.”

The Liberal Party has lost the Australian business sector with its “sheer fatuousness and contradictions” by abandoning net zero 2050. AFR editorial 15-16/11/25. The so called party of rational market economics relegates itself to the political fringe. 👇✅

Love coming across a devastating parody of American fatuousness and realizing they're completely earnest and straightforward. 4 microwave hamburgers for breakfast, good lord. I hope he gets the job with his ethical company and they treat him with care!

The “funny” thing is that he absolutely will, regardless of any promises he makes. That’s the thing with suck-ups and turncoats. Even when they watch earlier bootlickers end up tossed aside, they think their bribe/fatuousness will be the one that makes him keep their interests to heart.

Saturated fatuousness, huh.

Last comment: The manicured fatuousness with which NPR reporters have been interviewing other NPR reporters - none of whom see to be familiar with anything that has happened over the past 50 years in Israel and Palestine - quite literally had my stomach turning.

This interview was sadly superficial. Where it might have gotten interesting--the claim that the right to an abortion was a "created" right, subsequently decided as erroneous--would have been a good point to discuss the fatuousness of "originalism" as practiced by today's activist SCOTUS.

It's the narcissistic childish fatuousness of "whataboutism" writ to its absolutely most maximal
Anyone who thinks constitutional violations ought be an "eye for an eye" endeavor is (a) shockingly craven and (b) neither a believer in our Constitution nor fit for public office.
September 20, 2025 at 4:21 PM
“Make no law” is too narrow a prohibition to cover what’s being done now. Illustrates the malign fatuousness of “strict construction,“ “originalism” & other ways the Right tries to pretend no history has happened in the last 250 years & stuff us back in the bottle of pantaloons & muskets of 1787.

Running into a poem you loved is like bumping an old friend at a pub. Thus do I find Robert Creeley's "The Rain," six stanzas I copied on the back of my AP econ spiral notebook in high school, and re-read often during that neolib seminar. Ooof the splendid enjambment of that “semi-/lust”

Pulitzer for Fatuousness? Does that exist?
September 20, 2025 at 2:28 AM
So I dropped CBS Mornings because Gayle King is a fatuous gas bag and David Ellison is a fascist. I switched to GMA... speaking of fatuousness. There is no way that I'm watching Today - people who visit Manhattan and get up early to look like an idiot for a T.V. camera are dumber than rocks.

And thank god for you, too, Simon, coming in here to really give me the what-for about the "fatuousness" of this "cause" because - apparently - that's somehow better and nobler.

Keep up the great work!
