So the #BirdOfTheDay for today is #least. Hmmm. Here is the only #photo I've ever taken of a #Forster's #Tern. I was at #Frank #Lake in #Alberta 🇨🇦photographing pelicans and a friend pointed out this #bird hovering above us. I got off this one shot before it dove. #birds 🪶 #photography #nature #wild

(New). On E.M. Forster's 1909 story 'The Machine Stops', eerily prescient about our online world.

'The Machine develops - but not on our lines. The Machine Proceeds - but not to our goal.'

E.M. Forster’s 1909 short story ‘The Machine Stops’ is an uncanny predictor of our own tech-saturated existence.

EXACTLY! They can start a Civil or World War, save themselves in bunkers all while
reducing to population
to refuse public services.
Read WM Forster's
ONE SECOND AFTER.
Spoiler alert: The government saves themselves and leaves the population to starvation and disease. It's a slow rolling COUP.

Every day we inch a little closer to making Forster's "The Machine Stops" a reality, and I have mixed feelings about it tbh
our "smart" coffee machine at work is broken today. I made a joke about it being related to the AWS outage but then we looked in the back and it's plugged into ethernet

All of them for different reasons
Alstair's disability & attitude
Bast's soft side & vulnerabilities (also his power & strength)
Forster's ace affection & devotion
Trest's cunning & aro devotion
The star's innocence & amoral brutality

2. The 2nd season got off to a spectacular start with an adaptation of E.M. Forster’s remarkably prescient story ‘The Machine Stops’.
Later that same evening, Brian Aldiss was full of praise for the production, which boasted some extraordinary set design, on the BBC arts show ‘Late Night Line-Up’.

You could try James Ivory's adaptation of E.M. Forster's long-unpublished gay novel Maurice, or if you can find it, "Killing All the Right People," the AIDS episode of the sitcom Designing Women.

For today's #BirdOfTheDay, I've picked a Snowy Egret who coincidentally also has its Tongue out for Tuesday! And also a Forster's Tern demonstrating its aerodynamic ability

Today's #BirdOfTheDay is any bird who's main colour is 'White'. I couldn't narrow down to one, so here we have my shortlist. A Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Forster's Tern and White Pelican. #Birds 🪶 #EastCoastKin #Photography

On terribly windy days, with birds blowing one way and my camera the other, I'm happy to even get them in the frame. If they're recognizable, I call it a win and walk away content.

So, EM Forster's most famous short story is The Machine Stops (1909), very prescient about physically isolated, always-connected internet culture.

One of his last stories, Little Imber, was an incomplete work set against a future world fertility crisis, concluding with 2 men making a jizzbaby.

Marking the first public railway (1825) with E.M. Forster’s evocative lines from 'Howards End' (1910):
