CHICAGO — Locals know that tavern-style, not deep-dish, is the true Chicago pizza. Now, the word has finally reached Chicago-based pizza chain Giordano’s. The company known for its deep-dish has developed a twist on the classic cracker-thin crust, and it’s launching Wednesday to coincide with National Tavern-Style Pizza Day, according to a news release. “The new tavern-style pizza features an extremely thin crust created using a technique inspired by croissant-making,” according to Giordano’s. “Giordano’s proprietary Wisconsin mozzarella cheese is folded into the dough, producing a light, flaky texture and a satisfyingly crunchy bite in every square.” The pizza has a “crunch so loud you can taste it,” according to Giordano’s website. > View this post on Instagram > > A post shared by Giordano's Pizza (@giordanospizza) While deep-dish is what the brand is known for, and it already offers a thin-crust pizza, Giordano’s hopes that customers will come to love the new style as much as the classic. “It’s thin, crunchy and loaded with flavor, exactly what a great tavern-style pizza should be,” Jesse Harris, corporate executive chef at Giordano’s, said in a statement. The tavern-style pizza is available in a variety of classic and specialty combinations for dine-in, carryout or delivery at Giordano’s locations across the city. The original Giordano’s opened in 1974 on the South Side.
