I have a nice bottle of Glengoyne downstairs. I meant to take it to my friend's house last weekend because he & I visited the distillery years ago. But then there was the snow. So the bottle waits, untouched, unspoiled, for our next meeting. But this? This is not helping. Uisce beatha le do thoil..

#5 is this 10 year old Glengoyne from last year's advent calendar. Gotta be honest here: I hated this. It's been a long time since I had a whisky I disliked as much as this one. There's something on the nose that is just very off-putting, and the palate itself had some unpleasant chemical notes.

My mum makes something similar and it’s delicious, particularly when drizzled with Pedro Ximenez sherry or Glengoyne single malt.

An excellent choice of Lagavulin. And anything from Ardbeg is worth a taste. Which is not to knock the Glengoyne.

It was not my first choice but they did not have Oban or Caol Isla or Glengoyne but it was not fecking 90 bucks for a dram. I am fancy but - again - there is some shit that is just wasted on me, give it to the ones with the palate.
