#GoCPS
gocps was a bit of a rationalization of the very uncoordinated and even more confusing system that preceded it. i think it probably was something of an improvement!

Or Brooks, or King, or really any SEHS not on the North Side, which is most of them.

gocps, as an interface to express student preferences can be largely preserved. i would dramatically change the backend assignments.

It's available to all schools, but not all schools use it.

Fun side note, I wrote the high school awareness and selection modules... But before there was gocps. So all the good big picture stuff is me. Anything bad is not me.

the GoCPS application opens in a few weeks and it causes stress every year for me

if you even *think* you might need a different school the following year you get to participate and we're not the only family that does this annually

charter schools underserve kids with disabilities, pretty much as a rule

But, these charter schools are incredibly correct that GoCPS is a selection tool that is not useful

principals select students and this needs to stop

New research on the impact of Chicago's common enrollment system on high school selection. "After Chicago Public Schools introduced a centralized platform (GoCPS), students were more likely to enroll in high-performing high schools...". #edusky #edpolisky journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

Interesting.

The Consortium also rates GoCPS as highly effective, though I'm not sure parents agree.

CPS has a lot of issues with student assignment, mostly that they don't have any principles.

But, Noble charter schools are showing up to the board meeting to complain that the CPS map tool in GoCPS doesn't preference charter schools

and, CPS is correct on this one
September 25, 2025 at 6:05 PM
Yup. I was thinking of the previous principal. I absolutely have taken advantage of GoCPS but there’s a real deep irony in opposing housing density because of overcrowding at a school you are at because you used relationships to get in.

The resolution isn't a grand re-imagining of charter schools, resources, or student assignment at CPS.

"To minimize the potential disruption to the Acero students, the 2025-26 GoCPS application deadline shall be
extended to December 15, 2024."

GoCPS sucks so much and I'm not looking forward to this year's application

a *lot* of parents fill it out every year because just in case and that highlights how capricious the system is
