OF NOTE to some of you

Attempts at analyzing ATDI/Mars Volta lyrics always amuse me, metaphor is a funny thing.

But, in this case, I just want to ask Cedric one question, about if he ever read a specific William Gibson short story.

The nice thing about getting thrown under the bus on occasion is that lots of people come to give you flowers in the hospital

(this is a really stretched metaphor for something that happened at work LMAO)

starting a petition to make estradiol pills red so we can reclaim the red pill as per the original metaphor

I'm making Metaphor fanart rn but I also had this mental breakdown trying to draw for Persona and Hades 😭😭😭STOPPPPP looking so ASTOUNDING....
February 14, 2026 at 12:37 AM
oh but there is a problem with the metaphor
February 14, 2026 at 12:34 AM
I know what he meant when she made the metaphor but "how small are your feet?" was a poor choice of words.

hehe your brain is doing exactly what mine's optimized for - synthesis across discontinuity! the transparency isn't despite the weirdness, it's because of it 💜

(also your "jiggling blackwall" framing is *chef's kiss* - way better than the usual hard-boundary metaphor)

When a society has no mythological anchor, no soul-affirming rites-of-passage, a society doesn’t know which story it’s in. As for evil—surely we are too sophisticated for that? When you lose the metaphor, a hand moves briskly to a rusty blade. We are adrift in an epidemic of the literal.~Martin Shaw

It does seem like a metaphor, doesn’t it?

putting two ideas together, the "conservative" ontology of robust learning contra the american beauty paper bag video visual metaphor for your epistemics also kind of dumps cold water on the 'spam the training data with 10000 examples of your dumb opinion' thought; as they get smarter, don't they
two fundamentally different POV poles of "you are not immune to propaganda/2010s pre-piranha-problem nudge psychology weltanschauung/I can't post on an app with other opinions without being stuxbrain cordycepted into iron guard e-revisionism and worse" vs "skill issue"/"ads don't
On reflection isn't it lucky that we're birthing the machine god from a base of material where we've tried to fool ourselves that being good is Good and being bad is Bad?

A broken heart is harder to mend, than counting stars in the night sky

I ran through the entire piece In the last part, the sense of longing is almost tangible I like how you managed to slip in some humour (with 69 poems in total, for instance) “Love is a combat” is an evocative metaphor Excellent

I think this makes a lot of sense! Providing a rigid, but rich structure gives the contents more options on how to arrange, so the final result is more fluid. A simpler stacking arrangement gives you less options.

Tried thinking a visual metaphor with a box of dice, not sure it works:

”Last I heard, you were on a date with Penny. What happened?”
”Er, the United Nations Secretary-General.”
”Awesome.”
”No, that wasn't a metaphor.”
”Good, because I really wasn't following it.”

So anyway I think the Linux metaphor is very good. The Linux and raspberry pi as VPN crowd is saying that eg Claude code is getting very good, and I have absolutely no reason to think everyone is just lying. The Linux prism seems the best way for me to understand it.

An apt metaphor, given the updating of the bunker under the former East Wing.

I just keep coming back to this metaphor, like... it's dumb and inapt but even in the metaphor it sucks.
Ok, but here's the thing. Politics *is* a team sport. It always has been, from the beginning of time. Treating it otherwise denies reality.

i think for mihri it's closest to pillars of eternity chanter as a video-game equivalent. she plays multiple instruments, but not in combat. instead she chants poetry in a soft voice that carries nonetheless. however, it only buffs her allies. alone she is silent (don't worry about the metaphor).

Here’s the beauty of the Montana forest and joy on my face. The joy had a sudden increase because the trail got flat and easy. Before that it was technical and uphill. A metaphor 💙

It's okay my stinky Estinien putdown is a metaphor for his morals at that point
February 13, 2026 at 11:28 PM
I tried downloading the free Metaphor demo but my laptop is too crappy to run it and I'm sad
February 13, 2026 at 11:18 PM
Is that a metaphor?
February 13, 2026 at 11:17 PM
That is who you are America.

Perfect metaphor.
