MEGADOC, Mike Figgis' documentary about the making of Francis Ford Coppola's MEGALOPOLIS, is a fascinating piece of work in its own right. I love that Coppola hasn't made his movie available via streaming or Blu-ray and is roadshowing it on January 1. Makes the whole thing seem like a hallucination.

Watching Megadoc, Mike Figgis’s making-of Megalopolis, and it’s not so much that you can see the iceberg coming as it’s all iceberg. No one knows what they’re doing, from FFC downwards; Aubrey Plaza, to her immense credit, as in the film, doesn’t care.

‘MEGADOC’ is playing on the Criterion Channel since December 16. Don’t miss this one!

there's a scene in megadoc where Francis is arguing with Shia

F: are movies real or is it flickering light
S: it's real
F: no, it's just flickering light

"Megadoc" *kinda* made me want to revisit "Megalopolis," but the feeling might be fleeting.
A review of Megadoc (2025)
Left this thinking about how filmmaking is such a miraculous act of creative collaboration. So many people, in so many mental places, coming together to try to meet the director's vision. It's incredi...

George Lucas being *brutally* honest about Francis in MEGADOC is like wow
December 29, 2025 at 5:44 AM
Watching "Megadoc," and I wish I could see all the available table-read, test-screening, and rehearsal footage of the 2001 version with Thurman, Crudup, Madsen, Gandolfini, etc.

Your post motivated me to watch Megadoc today, and now I'm even more excited to see the MwM take on Megalopolis and Coppola.

megadoc is really funny because it makes francis coppola look like an asshole who is barely prepared to shoot his own movie

It‘s good, put it in the books! Now MEGADOC.
December 28, 2025 at 9:38 PM
I too wish to watch Megadoc. Would you let us know if Megalop is required to enjoy the doc?
December 28, 2025 at 7:50 PM
I’m watching MEGALOPOLIS so I can watch MEGADOC right after. I’m not hating it!

I loved in Megadoc seeing how Coppola got a decent performance out of Shia LaBeouf, since I always assumed he was a total asshole.

It was almost a relief to see that, yes, he is a spoiled asshole and it was extremely painful to pull that performance out of him.

We have tickets for Coppolla’s New Year’s Day screening of Megalopolis (“to bring hope to the world for 2026”). We’ll see what kind of audience it gets.

The number of people who hadn’t seen Megalopolis that went to the screening we were at for Megadoc was truly confusing.

There's this whole section in MEGADOC where Shia LaBeouf talks about how he had to make amends with Jon Voight for previously threatening (while intoxicated) to kill the old man over his famously conservative political views

Honestly, I'm not sure I would apologize for that

Last night, we started watching MEGADOC, the documentary about the making of MEGALOPOLIS

Haven't finished yet, but it's great

The breakout stars of the doc are Aubrey Plaza, who holds the whole project in cautious contempt; and Shia LaBeouf, who is basically doing it as part of a 12-step program

Having watched MEGADOC last night (and having a ball) I can see why Francis doesn't want to pair it with his movie.

I think because it's made by a well known director--Mike Figgis--he probably had more autonomy.
