A former book critic at Washington Post Book World wrote about last week's cuts, and while the whole thing is worth reading, the end cuts through the bullshit of algorithm/click-driven generated content to articulate the need for actual criticism and culture.

Folks look at you like you're crazy when you say we're in the midst of the worst, most unprecedented Article I constitutional crisis in 🇺🇸 history, & then it's Monday.

The Founders simply could not imagine men, even of the same party, so careless about their own power & oaths to allow all of this.
It's staggering how this political eunuch has not just done nothing at all as Speaker of the House, but has actually worked to prevent his colleagues from doing anything at all as well.

For all the right's fetishization of "originalism," this is a development that would've made the founders weep
Speaker Mike Johnson said Monday he is moving forward with a plan to revive a prohibition on House votes to overturn President Donald Trump’s global tariffs.

She must immediately be sent back to the maximum security prison where she belongs.

This is such an embarrassing interview. Good for CNBC for asking the most straightforward questions.
REP. STEIL: Some Dems demands put at risk the safety of members of law enforcement

CNBC: You mean like taking off their masks and having a badge that shows who they are?

STEIL: Well, they're known to their supervisors

Hilarious that they see no distinction between quantity with quality.

Like, the volume of books published is not what makes an author succeed.

The books have to be GOOD.

This is basic shit and anyone who doesn’t get it should check their head for holes.

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams
