The fact that this may happen *anyway*--that a non-zero number of AI users will see the insistence that no 100% AI works are eligible as a reason to hide any% of AI involvement--notwithstanding, it cannot possibly be lost on the committee how this alienates real writers or dilutes the award.

The US Constitution used to be known as the highest law of the land. Trump doesn't even know it exists, notwithstanding his oath to uphold it. Instead of taking the oath, elected officials should be required to read it and check a box agreeing to be bound to the terms like online user agreements.

I really thought by 40 as a software engineer I'd be either pure management or doing something else entirely due to younger, better educated people coming in but... honestly (sadly), I've never felt greater occupational security (the impending collapse of everything notwithstanding, obviously)

That is a separate issue, but yes - the “notwithstanding clause” has been invoked to override those rights.

I think the assumption from the Jewish parents quoted in this article that if they had just taken their kids to Israel more often, their kids would not have voted Mamdani is... suspect. In my experience, that is not necessarily what happens when young American Jews spend time in Israel.
