#STRATCOM
A.I. isn’t going to end humanity by taking over STRATCOM and launching nukes.

It’s going to do it by drowning us in bullshit.
Grading and googling hallucinated citations, as one does nowadays, and now that LLMs have been around for a while, I've discovered new horrors: hallucinated journals are now appearing in Google Scholar with dozens of citations bc so many people are citing these fake things

TRANSCOM and STRATCOM both have interesting command relationships with the geographic combatant commands, but that actually is boring nerd shit

SOCOM is the focus of this discussion

SOCOM was established in conjunction with G-N and gets its own bit in T10 in the CCMD Chapter 6 (10 USC 167)

The other 3 have global but functionally aligned responsibilities: TRANSCOM (transportation things), STRATCOM (strategic deterrence things), and SOCOM (speshul operashuns things)

Incidentally the Unified Command Plan defines SPACECOM as a geographic combatant command (starting 100 miles up)

“Naval Station Norfolk and other bases susceptible to extreme weather events, like STRATCOM, do not need to take measures to mitigate the impact of climate change. Instead, fight the ‘climate ideology’ that says we need to minimize the impact of climate change!”

My words.

The pied piper of Stratcom
The future we were afraid of: Skynet becoming self-aware, building Terminators, and enslaving humanity.

The future we’re getting: integrating A.I. chatbots into the national security infrastructure, only for them to give away the nuclear codes to the Pied Piper of Hamlin.
It turns out all the guardrails in the world won’t protect a chatbot from meter and rhyme. www.wired.com/story/poems-...

When Farage was an MEP he voted against measures aimed at tackling Russian propaganda and disinformation. He voted against a resolution calling for the upgrade of the EU's East StratCom taskforce and stronger EU action to counter "highly dangerous" Russian disinformation. Why?

This is actually the set of "A House of Dynamite," which I got to visit last year. The detail they put into recreating the Secretary's office - as well as the Big Board room at STRATCOM - was *amazing*.

If you haven't seen "A House of Dynamite," it's time:

Et d’ailleurs, ce narratif de « la guerre c’est fasciste » (je tire à gros trait mais vous avez compris) ça a une origine bien identifiée : la stratcom de l’URSS pendant la guerre froide. Reprise par la Russie depuis.

Spoiler : ses visées ne sont pas progressistes

Another elegant and sharp take by Ed Lucas on Estonia’s handling of the Wagner trolling. They met Russia’s psychological provocation with ridicule, not panic. A small stratcom masterclass the allies should adopt.

"National security requires many things. A sharp sense of humour is one of them."
Punchlines: Wagner and Narva
Estonia did not react with outrage at signs of Wagner’s presence on the border. Estonia responds to Russian trolling with ridicule.

Damn, that is one of my fave factions! I wish the game was like, actually playable? Like I've read through it and I still don't understand how a GM could possibly actually keep evne half of all these barely defined moving parts in order for Stratcom play.

Been exposed to #Poetry here on #BlueSky. Though I'm a visual artist, I have written #Poems since I was in high school in the late 70's. While in college I had my first #Poem published in my college's chapbook at #HastingsCollege in 1983. I'm a bit scared to share it, but...
Maybe, I'll share more.

In A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE there’s a gripping scene where the President consults with the generals at U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM) to assess the Shrek Risk of taking retaliatory action against whichever superpower fired a single warhead that is aimed at Chicago

I have organized my first 2-day forum for 100+ guests from 30 countries/instituions: politicians, former ministers, former chief in commander of Slovak army, ambassadors from 8 embassies, top experts, civil servants, analysts and the media. Topic? StratCom Under Pressure.

In confirmation hearing for VADM Correll as new STRATCOM head, part of mission of Golden Dome missile defense is to “guarantee a second strike capability.” A tall order since China’s current nuke buildup is already partly a response to such defenses. www.armed-services.senate.gov/hearings/to-...

This tactic is well-known and could be better explained to the public.

Academic and forensic research (DFRLab, NATO StratCom COE, Twitter takedown datasets) all document creation-date clustering in Russian online operations.

There is and was only one Curtis Lemay and one Thomas power Jr. So why is every Hollywood portrayal of the SAC/STRATCOM commander the same: a man deep in Nebraska who is ready to initiate Armageddon at a moments notice without deliberation or hesitation? I explore in my latest⬇️

Lots of tankers, recon, command and control aircraft over the United States tonight. Bombers don’t track. Wonder if it’s part of the culmination of STRATCOM exercise Global Thunder. Tonight/early morning also has scheduled Minuteman III ICBM launch.

Depicting STRATCOM as hawkish, emotional hotshots is completely detached from reality.

The other major issue is how they portray STRATCOM. If you’ve actually interacted with them, you know they’re the most professional bunch of people you will ever meet. They are also among the most cautious actors in the entire nuclear ecosystem, probably for good reason.
