I also think our country has a lot of work to do regarding the perception of individuals with substance use disorder. Entering the public health field has fucking rocked me to see so many people regard individuals with SUD as less than human.

Pt. 1 Most of the people I currently work with. Started doing drugs in their teens or before. I think the biggest threat to public health? Besides people who don’t vaccinate.

Racist eugenicists. With. STI’s. On crack as well. So for her to mock people with SUD. Again? Trash Black chic.

So HUD just (tried) to change homelessness policy to force people to accept mental health and SUD treatment prior in order to get housing, and now they cut $2B of funding for those services.

So, they want homeless people to die. It is their policy now.

It's also pretty common for folks in the early stage of SUD recovery. Hotels are an easy way to (a) make sure care workers can find the person and connect them with care and (b) get the person out of a situation that may lead to relapse. Such a policy is absurd and detrimental to public health.

By my count I have spent time around at least three cults, of whom the Rainbow Family of Living Light were my favorite. I've also had a few interesting jobs, like tech support, warehouse jockey, smartphone refurbisher, truck driver, and outpatient mental health/SUD UM specialist. It's been weird.

The SAFE task force connected 14 people in Sacramento with shelter at the city’s nearby small home community.

This builds on previous efforts to expand mental health & substance use disorder treatment and create new beds/housing for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
