#VSTS
Bought a bunch of new KORG VSTs on sale and wrote head-empty cat music

I always yap about music production on Windows + REAPER since that's been my go to as a former Mac + Logic Pro user (still am when optional)

There's something about using new VSTs clashed with some abandonware VSTs of yesterdecades (the late 90s/early 2000s) that just HIT right.

Born to add 300 VSTs to my track, forced to consolidate to prevent my CPU from exploding

Also on my todo list today: look for some VSTs for Cakewalk Sonar. I need a wider selection of string and drum instruments. Maybe some effects too

it's somehow even more egregious when a DAW is concerned because honestly I only need something to write midi, load vsts, record shit and mix some stuff. THIs IS AS LOW TECH AS IT GETS, A 2007 CUBASE INSTALL COULD DO IT, why do i need fucking LLMS for that

I think my problem is the same as with things like Serum or Massive or other “do everything” VSTs - because it can do everything, I’m never sure what I want to use it for. Some constraints are helpful; I reach for things like the Juno or Moog emulations far more because I know where they fit.

When your kick and bass are having a full-on street fight around 60 Hz and you just keep saying “it slaps though”… That’s not glue, that’s sonic mashed potatoes.

Looking for free VSTs, sound banks and presets to actually tame your low end?

Everyone who does the incidental music for TV cartoons and video games bought the same dreadful pack of orchestral instrument VSTs and everything sounds the same kind of bad

Just use mpt and draw waveforms in the sample editor. There's a state-variable filter you can control with loopable envelopes & you can load vsts if desired

Okay, I've got my fresh windows install, and almost all of my programs are installed again. Everything seems to be working (a lot faster than before as a bonus).

I still need to reinstall all my VSTs, but all my art and music has been safely imported. Now, I sleep 😴

reminder for musicians to take advantage of the black friday sales on VSTs n plugins!

So many VSTs force you to login now and I could live with it if 9/10 of them didn't lack a "remember password" box. I have to open up 1Password in a browser window and manually copy/paste a password 50000 times per song

When I next reinstall windows, I think I'm just going to not bother with ozone, izotope, spitfire audio, or any of the random ones where I have to install their strange anti piracy app that always runs in the background

I'll just use free vsts
OB-XD and dexed do me well enough for synthy stuff

# of accounts I've made to demo VSTs so far tonight: 2

I'd honestly be willing to spend the money on so many more plugins and vsts if they didn't require me to make a goddamn account on their website and download some third party anti-piracy encryption software jfc I just wanna make music

Niiiiice - as convenient as VSTs are, nothing beats a hardware synth

there have been like 10 new jp-8000/8080 vsts announced this year. what the hell is in the zeitgeist here?

if you feel the need to make a radio edit of a song that is already barely four minutes i am coming to your house and uninstalling every single one of your VSTs
November 24, 2025 at 9:37 PM
in 2006 i was making shitty idm with a cracked copy of fruity loops and any free vsts i could find online, no music lessons or studio time required
November 25, 2025 at 1:58 AM
i like using niche vsts and getting to view lovely beautiful images like this

I really like flatpaks but I hate that there’s no way to *fully* unsandbox flatpaks and it’s what made me switch off linux
Installing bitwig on a non-Debian system and not being able to use 3rd party vsts was killer for me
