Even if the writing doesn’t work for you it’s one of the most beautiful books of the last decade. Bilquist is a generational talent.

BOOKS OF 2026, A THREAD:

NewsPrints by Ru Xu. Took the 5yo to the library, and he insisted I *also* pick out a graphic novel from the kids’ shelves. Knocked it out in half an hour or so, but it was fun! Beautiful art, a story that felt original. Recommended for your middle graders!

Notable exception to this is otherside picnic, which after 8 entire books of building up their relationship has them finally get together followed by the entire back half of book 8 being the most beautiful and psychotic lesbian sex scene ever written AND the series is still going strong after this
The hets don't even realise how good they've got it man. They won't make spice and wolf but both girls. They won't let you make yuri toradora. You aren't allowed to do that. You can only make I Want To Fuck The Villainess? And you will get canned after 2 volumes and you will like it

I put The Mirror & The Light aside during the fall to finish a couple other books but picked it back up tonight and I'm instantly engrossed in the beautiful writing and storytelling of Hilary Mantel.

I’m planning my garden and looking through rose books & am appalled by the number of roses without a fragrance.
To me, fragrance is the number one thing I look for in a rose. A beautiful rose without fragrance is like a house without a roof.

The Spirit Bares its Teeth is worth reading too. More of a historical-fantasy horror vibe rather than post apocalyptic. Both books have earned their place in my favourites collection. Really glad I got the beautiful hardbacks.

After the next Dresden Files book comes out in a couple weeks I’m absolutely devouring the rest of her books.

This was so concise and quiet and beautiful.

You know, I am really impressed with the quality of the physical book from NewCon. Really good quality paper (unlike a number of other books I've read lately), nicely typeset, and though the cover isn't strictly speaking "beautiful", it is extremely sturdy, as is the binding. Textbook feel to it.

Love the use of chaos vs calm! The juxtaposition of chaos and calm is my favorite thing in art! Plus all the Easter eggs!! Like the warrior cats books!! Beautiful colors and well done!!!

Ahhhh... it reminds me of my beloved toaster *mourn*

Same blue... with chrome... There's these books by Chris Van Dusen and well, it made me want that aesthetic. :D

I would totally have a room full with that same scheme if I had a house and money :D

Beautiful!

"Hollis is shorter than Jay, but meatier in the places that give men permission to start shit on dark street corners, thick about the neck and upper arms".

From "Pleasantville" by @atticalocke.bsky.social. Love her books (the ones I've read so far); gripping 'tec stories, and beautiful writing.

I closed the shop over New Year's & back at it today, wrapping my last order of 2025: a copy of D.H. Lawrence's novel, Sons & Lovers (a book I loved).

I can be a snob about Reader's Digest editions, but these books from their World's Best Reading series are beautiful.

I clearly need to convince publishers to do a bundle deal for their books - beautiful hardback for signing and sitting my shelf & ebook for actually reading...

I am very signed up to the theory that collecting books and reading books are two very different hobbies...

My problem is I read books on an e-reader while ignoring the pile of beautiful hardbacks... I love & buy physical books, but they are far less convenient to read.
