Aww, buffleheads. What a super birb name! Made me laugh. "A buoyant, large-headed duck that abruptly vanishes and resurfaces as it feeds." 🤣

Double Buffleheads

These Bufflehead Ducks are not only #TwoOfAKind, but of one mind as their water play appears synchronized.

Finished with the count. A good variety of fowl, no real surprises.

Please enjoy some buffleheads being buffleheads.

Thank you @blobology.bsky.social for hosting me! Every visit to @hhmijanelia.bsky.social feels tranquil and special. Even in the winter you are embraced by lively science and nature. Here are some photos from the beautiful Janelia campus, species names in the alt text. #birds #wildlife #nature

Really didn't have a super great morning out, I was hoping low tide might give me some different birds than normal, but at this time of year it just meant it was pretty dead.

I do have to thank an elderly birder who pointed out these buffleheads in the distance though.

Relaxing Sunday kayaking and fishing with 8yo, buffleheads, cormorants, some snacking vultures, a number of great egrets and blue herons, and a family of otters that hung out with us for some time.

I love birding. I just saw a bunch of these things called BUFFLEHEADS (picture courtesy of wikipedia)

I was out in Humber Bay an hour ago, admiring a bunch of buffleheads, a few hooded mergansers (so fancy) and a lovely group of trumpeter swans. But I will definitely make my way down to the spit again soon.

Wow… that’s a lot of goldeneyes all together! I see scaups in big numbers out in the west end of the city, but goldies and buffleheads are just dotted in the flock, like the red-breasted mergansers. Never more than a dozen. Gotta get myself to the east side, stat!
