This is a good start! I think the name of the cockatoo might be unnecessary for the pitch. I think it would be better to establish that Lumi is the wild girl. Is this a dual POV story? If not, I would also recommend putting Bugsy's name first in the second sentence to clarify he's the MC.

I don't know about you, but I find Bugsy's Scyther more difficult than Whitney's Miltank even with a Quilava. That Fury Cutter plus poison from Kakuna was just nasty Orz

Bugsy's dodged some bullets since starting his journey navigating cancer, and somehow has made it to my favorite month. He is still gaining weight (he weighs 10.7lbs.. my birthday is 10/7), but is slowing down, quickly. The end of the line is near. I'll be forever grateful for him.
