back in the early aughts during the poker craze I went to an underground cardroom that was operating out of an office park in central NJ. They had cameras and security and checked IDs, and i'm positive that to get something like that going you'd need mob ties but the room itself was very safe

A proposal for a food cart pod on SW Salmon between 2nd and 3rd has been approved. www.portland.gov/ppd/zoning-l...

The site was formerly home to the Lotus Cardroom & Cafe, which was demolished for a high rise hotel that never broke ground.

The Plough Inn stood at the top of Pott Street on the corner with New Islington in Ancoats, as seen here in 1967. It closed in 1970 and Pott Street was where the Cardroom Estate and canal wharf were built.

I switched which cardroom I play poker at, and when I ran into one of the employees playing at the new place he was like, super concerned and made sure that there hadn’t been an incident that drove me away from the old room.

I only worked retail for a year (Target, but that was overnight stocking), but I *did* work for a Cardroom that was open all year and all day. Gamblers would come in on like Christmas and ask, "Wow, you're really open?" Like, yeah, you shits want to gamble so much that the owner chose the hours.

Fun fact: Warren Zevon's father was a house player at a Gardena cardroom during the California Split timeline.
I've seen almost all of Altman's films (not Popeye). One of the greatest directors of my lifetime. The Player is probably my favorite.
