I really wish more of my friends over here could have kept a closer eye on the #$SOC situation because it was one of the funniest fumbles in the history of fintwit. Plus I may have trolled Phil Mickelson into admitting he did more insider trading on the public TL

Economic thinking is probably the area where the democratization effect of fintwit had the best effect, where good faith people without access to the halls of power could put forth their ideas, analysis, and forecasts. And the split on Warsh seems in large part driven by this dynamic.

Fintwit bot has some sketchy info sources and takes too many bad actor statements at face value, but unusual whales is definitely trying to introduce and amplify destabilizing, unfounded rumors. There’s a whiff of zerohedge about them.

As a former fintwit person, I like this development and IMHO cash tags and fintwit was a big part of why twitter was influential and a place for breaking news despite the smaller user base compared to other social media.
