Book 3 is Honeyeater by Kathleen Jennings. This is a gothic story set in subtropical Australia

Liked: Little ghost stories between chapters, lush descriptions of the creek and Wren house, Grace's roses

Disliked: pacing felt uneven. Book overall is slow paced then rapidly picks up at the end

Let me introduce to you the Olive-backed female Sunbird. She is enjoying her solitude immensely. The male is another of those showoffs.

The Olive-backed Sunbird is a small honeyeater-like bird with a distinctive down-curved bill. On the male, the head is yellowish-olive with a yellow supercilium and a yellow moustachial stripe. The upperparts are also yellowish-olive except for the tail, which is black with a white tip. An iridescent dark-bluish or dark-violet gorget extends from the chin to the upper breast; the rest of the underbody is bright yellow. The upperwing is dark brown and the underwing is yellowish-white with brownish-grey flight feathers. The bill is black and the feet dark grey. The female appears similar but a little paler, lacking the iridescent gorget, wholly yellow underneath. They only live in tropical Queensland, Australia. This is the female. She is sitting on a cross branch amidst a number of branches going in all directions.

They are a type of honeyeater. Beautiful birds. There are 4 other wattle bird species but only the red and yellow ones have visible wattles (that colour match their name :)

Eastern #Spinebills are endemic to #australia. They are nectar feeders and important pollinators. They hover like hummingbirds, using their elongated curved bill to access nectar.
