hyperconsumerism, release me

I kinda love a Scrooge or Grinch with the right motivations, bc I have a soft spot for the curmudgeonly. If he's pissy bc of Christmas hyperconsumerism and overconsumption, or forcing positivity while being ritually abused by terrible family? I love that.

Helpful reminder in this festive season of hyperconsumerism. The greatest gift we can give another living soul is our heartlight💞🕯️, as Paul Barnes has so tenderly depicted throughout the years via acrylic and plaster.

Hating the holidays not in a grinch way but in a “hyperconsumerism is destroying the earth” kind of way, I’m not like other girls ❤️

EVEN MORE CRINGETOBER! We’re getting ever so closer to non art challenge posts fellas. Been drawing a lot of self indulgent stuff whilst working on WIPs. Still been stuck at 10 of them tho #art #artist #OC #stevenuniverse #thechaosauthority #squishmallow #cartoon

unstoppable force (American hyperpolarization) vs immovable object (American hyperconsumerism)
the one thing that might end a Yoon moment in America is the fact that it would likely end the consumerist privileges most Americans value above life itself (see COVID response)
people genuinely don't realize how awful civil conflict is

This project by Pau Figueres Ortiz examines how brands are used, sampled, remixed, and desecrated in art, creating (un)intentional re-advertising. A meta-mix archive of hyperconsumerism, it classifies works by brand-sampling methods and brands.

The will of the people is hyperconsumerism and white supremacy. This government reflects them perfectly.

What culture are we known for here that we should be proud of?

Hyperconsumerism?

Fast food cheeseburgers?

Like, seriously, what homogenous culture exists consistently through all 50 states?

There’s little in life LESS attractive than #HyperConsumerism & (particularly ’Merican’s 🇺🇸) constant craving to buy more, newer, cooler, etc.
Whether it’s the #opulence of wealthy, or the compulsion of the poor… just plain ugly.

Shoppers spend billions on Black Friday to snag holiday deals, despite wider economic uncertainty
Despite wider economic uncertainty hovering above this year’s holiday season, shoppers turned out in big numbers for Black Friday — spending billions of dollars both in stores and online.

Don’t know how if I can edit comments & meant to say..”This isn’t all over social media & all news sources..though I haven’t been to AP or Reuters today so maybe I missed it.
Of course the murder is happening on Black Friday when Feds ASSume we’ll all be in a materialist hyperconsumerism frenzy .

And this shift isn’t just about marketing strategy. It’s a sign of how deeply hyperconsumerism shapes our lives.

In the 1950s and 60s, Philadelphia police used “Black Friday” to complain about the chaos and overwhelming crowds at the start of the holiday shopping rush.

Did they mean the refusal to participate in hyperconsumerism when stuff works just fine? Or the planned obsolescence by monopolistic conglomerates with no right to repair? Or the proprietary shenanigans that make interoperability impossible?

THAT device hoarding?

To them I say: HOARD THIS 🔧🖕

Just a reminder in thus hellscape of hyperconsumerism as we enter holiday season:

You probably don't need to add 10 extra kitchen gadgets to your kitchen.

Unless it's broken or around the time to replace that item...keep on using that item.

Glenn Powell is very engaging as both a devoted family man and an unhinged survivor type, and Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin are great as the charismatic antagonists. I also love the lurid Night City in Cyberpunk 2077-esque atmosphere of vapid reality TV and hyperconsumerism in the first act.

Please, please can y'all diversify a bit? But unfortunately I know why things are this way

Books have become part of hyperconsumerism. BookTubers have to create content so they're gonna gravitate toward easy to read books w/ straightforward tropes/plots so ofc they're gonna be reading YA

November 14, 2025 at 12:26 AM
niche interest I guess but I am fascinated by the people who were big names in the climate space but who have pivoted in the past few years into some really awful AI-enhanced capitalism / hyperconsumerism stuff

eg: Calum Worthy, once an Al Gore climate reality guy, now this:

Has anyone made a videogame version of like jingle all the way/ black friday/ those weirdos who get up at 2am to get limited edition tat from starbucks hyperconsumerism?

I know Night of the Consumers is a thing but that's a slightly different premise than like ' you must acquire the talking elmo '

This kind of thing is not only self-interested. It’s exacerbating a world already in deadly hyperconsumerism overload, with a destabilizing climate. theconversation.com/openai-slipp...

I can't even be annoyed at this because '<<simulacrum of reality created by hyperconsumerism in 2002>> is way better than <<simulacrum of reality created by hyperconsumerism in 2025>>' is just too funny.
This is doing numbers on social media right now and it's so depressing how people truly yearn for this shit and want to preserve that feeling indefinitely like a mausoleum of false memories.
September 29, 2025 at 6:54 PM
people who defend them over this are just brainrotted by late stage capitalist hyperconsumerism & a ceaseless sense of entitlement to purchase every shiny trinket that strikes their fancy while wage-slave workers fight for their rights & the drained environment collapses from choking on our waste
