Think it was 8 years ago we were there, a bit of a pilgrimage, a holiday on a shoestring. We camped and visited every distillery - even the tiny gin one on Jura. Bought a particularly nice Kilchoman Portwood. Must get back up to Scotland again.

Nice to see more distilleries putting what type of barley they're using on their expressions! Lagg and Kilchoman are doing wonders with Concerto and Publican specifically

Not for a few years. I used to be a big supporter of Bruichladdich (mum worked in Port Charlotte) but since they ceased to be independent, I’ve been supporting the rest of the island more. I have a lovely Bunnahabhain next up, then a Kilchoman, and a couple of Port Charlottes in the backlog.

The Ardbegs used to be sooooo good, and tbf the 10 yr old is still a classic but tyen they just went crazy with too many wird expressions. I find I'm enjoying the gorgeous stuff coming out of the newer Islay distilleries a whole lot more now - Kilchoman esp has become a really classic distillery.

There were 3 others that I really enjoyed, but I discounted them from the top 3 as I already knew I enjoyed them. Kilchoman Machir Bay (an absolute favourite of mine!), Bowmore 15 yr old and Scapa 16 yr old.

We've been very impressed with what Ardnahoe are doing too. Much as I love the older guard, I do think it's good that there's some new blood (does 20 yr old Kilchoman still count as new? - relatively, yes, I suppose) coming in to stop things getting too complacent.
