An animal study in Nature Neuroscience shows that high estrogen levels can enhance learning capabilities. #Neuroskyence 🧪
Estrogen modulates reward prediction errors and reinforcement learning - Nature Neuroscience
Dopamine encoding of reward prediction errors naturally fluctuates over females’ reproductive cycles with estrogenic signaling due to reduced expression of dopamine reuptake proteins.

Brenda Milner showed the world that memory isn’t one thing — the hippocampus supports our life stories, while other circuits let us keep learning skills.
Her research on patient H.M. built the foundation of cognitive neuroscience.

a white kid in my sophomore neuroscience class said that the reason there weren’t a lot of black or female professionals in the field was bc it was “too ambitious for minorities”. so i got my doctorate in it.

bitch.

I started my PhD on the philosophy and neuroscience of consciousness in 2022. Even though people advised against it, I think it was good timing.

So far this year at #NIH, I had to

- cancel a visiting speaker I was hosting
- cancel a distinguished lecture I was giving at a midwest university
- cancel another seminar visit to talk about our work
- cancel my trip to the Society for Neuroscience meeting
- now cancel my trip to NeurIPS

Kind of funny that I left neuroscience only to be eventually sucked into this field
the joy of a nondeterministic black box with a number of different and complicated causes for its behavior, of which there are several variants where you have to guess why they are different
Ok the same model in AI labs doesnt hallucinate like the public facing one does. So they have done *some kind of horse shit* to the prompt that pulls it away from emperical reality.

Neuroscience of language has a dilemma: how do we reconcile extensive patient and imaging evidence for **language-specific** processing with the fact that naturalistic language evokes extensive activity all over the brain? We propose a framework that accounts for both.
